COVID-19 RESOURCES
COVID-19 Cases & Hospitalizations Increase in Santa Clara County
In light of an unprecedented, rapid rise in COVID-19 cases, this past Tuesday, November 17, Santa Clara County regressed into the more restrictive 'Purple Tier' of the State’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy. As a result, the following adjustments to how businesses operate will occur.

Businesses that can operate outdoors:
  • Restaurants
  • Gyms and fitness centers
  • Museums, zoos, and aquariums

Businesses that can operate indoors:
  • Retail shops (including shopping malls) must reduce capacity to a maximum of 25%

Must completely close operations:
  • Outdoor bars, breweries, and distilleries
  • Indoor family entertainment centers

Additionally, the California Department of Public Health announced yesterday, November 19, a limited Stay at Home Order for counties within the Purple Tier. This requires non-essential work, movement, and gatherings to stop between 10PM through 5AM. The order will take effect on Saturday, November 21, at 10PM and remain in effect until December 21, at 5AM.

With the holidays right around the corner, it is vital to celebrate in the safest way possible, which means virtually or with members of your household. Gathering with people outside your household – even extended family – increases the risk of getting and spreading COVID-19. In an effort to decrease the spread of coronavirus, the County is also urging individuals to cancel travel plans.

If you must travel, please:
  • Get tested 1-3 prior to travel and 3-6 days post travel
  • Quarantine at home for 14 days after return
  • Get a flu shot
  • Wear a face covering at all times
  • Maintain an appropriate physical distance
  • Wash and sanitize hands often

COMMUNITY UPDATES
Stuffing is for the Turkey not the Drain
The holidays often bring people together to celebrate with food, family, and friends. It’s no coincidence that the holidays are also the time of year when we see an increase in sewer backups caused by fats, oils, and grease entering the sanitary sewer system. Here are four tips to help prevent a sewer emergency:

TIP #1: Never pour cooking oils or grease into a sink, toilet, or drain.
TIP #2: Collect fats, oils, and grease in a container to cool and harden. When the container is full, cover it tightly and place it in a bag to prevent leakage, then dispose of it in the garbage.
TIP #3: Wipe food scraps or grease from pots, pans, and plates into the garbage before washing.
TIP #4: Place a wastebasket in the bathroom for items that cannot be flushed.

What items cannot be flushed down the toilet?
  • Disposable Diapers
  • Personal Hygiene Products
  • Cotton Swabs
  • Paper Towels
  • Tissues
  • Wipes (even those that claim to be flushable)
