GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE UPDATE

This month, we had the opportunity to welcome Congressman Blake Moore to the ABC Utah office for a special gathering in place of our regular Government Affairs Committee meeting. Congressman Moore shared his perspective on several important topics, including Project Labor Agreements, small business tax breaks, and the differences in core beliefs between Democrats and Republicans. He also gave us a behind-the-scenes look at what really goes on in Congress and how the current administration is approaching key issues. It was a great opportunity for our members to ask questions, have open conversations, and hear firsthand about the decisions being made in Washington that impact our industry. A big thank you to Congressman Moore for taking the time to visit with us!

SAFETY COMMITTEE UPDATE

The Safety Committee discussed key workplace hazards, including driving safety, proper load securement, fleet monitoring, and cold-weather precautions. Members emphasized the importance of securing materials during transport, inspecting heating equipment, monitoring carbon monoxide levels, and promoting safe driving practices. The committee also explored vehicle telematics and the need for clear policies addressing repeated driving violations.

The committee celebrated a successful 2026 Safety Fair, which welcomed 230 attendees, 19 vendors, and five safety training sessions! Positive feedback highlighted valuable networking opportunities, educational resources, and vendor participation. Looking ahead to 2027, the committee plans to explore larger venues to accommodate continued growth and expand outreach to local schools and students.
