Raynham Public Library Brings AI and Misinformation Conversation to the Community
Misinformation is nothing new, but artificial intelligence is changing how quickly misleading information can be created and shared. From AI-generated images and videos to realistic-looking written content, new technology has made it increasingly important to understand where information comes from and how to recognize content that may not be trustworthy.
The Raynham Public Library will bring that conversation to the community on Saturday, September 26, with “Understanding Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Misinformation.” The program will be led by journalist Philip Eil, who will discuss how AI is being used to create and spread misinformation and what people can do to navigate an information landscape shaped by the technology.
The program will explore questions many people are beginning to encounter in everyday life: What exactly is AI? What is misinformation? How can AI-generated content affect society, and how can people become better at recognizing it? Eil will also discuss efforts to regulate AI and ways individuals can stay vigilant when evaluating the information they encounter.
Eil is an award-winning freelance journalist from Providence and the former news editor of The Providence Phoenix. His work has appeared in The Atlantic, Men’s Health, The Boston Globe and the Columbia Journalism Review. He has also taught writing and journalism at Brown University, Columbia University’s School of the Arts and the Rhode Island School of Design.
The program will be held Sept. 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room. Registration is required. For more information or to register, visit the Raynham Public Library event page.

Historical Tidbit:
Mills, Elizabeth House
This small homestead was owned by the Lincoln and Mills families during the nineteenth century. This land would have appeared in 1830 during the separation of Raynham from Taunton. The farm at the time was the smallest of 116 farms in Raynham, valued at $900. That would be $22,667 in 2012. The house has been through seven generations of the Mills and Lincoln families. It's at 521 Prospect Hill Street.

Climate Can Do - Carpooling!
Looking for an easy way to save the environment and money? Look no further than carpooling! Seemingly simple in nature, the act of carpooling and sharing a ride with co-workers, friends, and others has a profound impact on both our ecosystems and wallets. Carpooling reduces carbon footprints and improves air quality whilst simultaneously lowering overall fuel costs, and in some cases qualifying eligible participants for tax incentives! For more information on carpooling, van-pooling, and other alternatives visit Mass.Gov.

Taunton Watershed 2027 Tide Calendar Photo Contest
Now - September 2, 2026
The Taunton River Watershed Alliance is sponsoring a digital photography contest for its 2027 Tide Calendar and is accepting electronic submissions from adult and teen, amateur and professional photographers alike.
We are looking for photographs of wildlife, scenery, agriculture, evidence of the area’s historic and archeological heritage, and people enjoying the watershed.
We are especially interested in seasonal images. Higher resolution images taken with your phone camera (instead of a social media app) and with the phone turned sideways (a landscape orientation) work the best with our printing format.
Photographs must be the sole property of the submitting party, and they must have been taken within the last five years WITHIN THE TAUNTON RIVER WATERSHED.
The submission deadline is September 2, 2026.
For more information and submission guidelines, please call the TRWA office at 508-828-1101 or visit our website at www.savethetaunton.org.

Summmahh!!!
“Let us dance in the sun, wearing wild flowers in our hair...” ~ Susan Polis Schutz
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.”
~ John Lubbock
"Aaah, summer - that long anticipated stretch of lazy, lingering days, free of responsibility and rife with possibility. It's a time to hunt for insects, master handstands, practice swimming strokes, conquer trees, explore nooks and crannies, and make new friends.” ~ Darell Hammond
"People take pictures of the Summer, just in case someone thought they had missed it, and to proved that it really existed."
~ Ray Davies
| |
As we grasp these last remaining days of summer, pause, breathe it in. The lush green of the full trees, the splash of the waves….
Summmahh, Summmahh, Summmahh!!!
: ) ~ Jacquie
