Homeless Industrial Complex Updates, Private Public Defenders, Urban Trail Rangers to the Rescue, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • Thanks to TABOR, which the current state legislature wants to destroy, your Colorado Springs mill levy for property tax was reduced.

  • This week in Sanctuary City news, a busload of migrants was dropped off at the State Capitol building in Denver. These migrants were shipped there after crossing into Texas illegally. If you advertise sanctuary, don’t be surprised when people take you seriously.

  • The Executive Director of Denver’s Housing Stability Department wants to foist some of the cost of Denver’s homeless problem off on communities outside of Denver because the homeless people sometimes wander over Denver city boundaries. Classic.

  • Denver has opened up a hotel for the homeless on Quebec Street, near the Central Park neighborhood.

  • The city of Aurora, Colorado, is looking at dissolving the public defender’s office and privatizing this function.

  • Colorado Springs has kicked off an Urban Trail Rangers program to help monitor trails around the city. Can you guess why trails need to be monitored for safety? This will cost taxpayers around $450,000 and is yet another cost to taxpayers of allowing drug-addled criminals to camp anywhere they want.

  • The Pikes Peak Library District used taxpayer funds to pay $1.5 million in advance on their lease, all to allow the Manitou Library to renovate their building.

  • The El Paso County Commissioners unanimously passed an ordinance to punish those who misuse stormwater infrastructure.

  • El Paso County is spending taxpayer money on coffee and barbecue. Additionally, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum are beneficiaries of taxpayer money, to the tune of around $250,000 collectively. As usual, we were ahead of the curve and reported on this waste of taxpayer money before.

  • One recent analysis shows you need $15,000 per year more to live in Colorado than in 2021. Didn’t Polis say he was going to save us money somewhere during the campaign season?

  • The federal government will provide taxpayer money, in the form of grants, to the Front Range Rail project.

  • A commission has formed in the Colorado Legislature to address the property tax issue they attempted to use to push Prop HH, which would have stolen your TABOR refunds forever. It will surprise no one to learn that some of those appointed to this commission were sponsors and creators of the Prop HH scam.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!

Don't forget to subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Since most of the City and County board and commission meetings are not televised or recorded, we are trying to remedy that. We now have a camera and tripod for volunteers to check out for future meetings.

If you have a tip about a story in the Pikes Peak region that you aren’t seeing reported, let us know. We will see what we can find out.
