Did You Know...

Maude Stearns Ellison claimed she started Father's Day in honor of her father Omar (poet, preacher, salesman). Celebrated in the Winthrop Universalist church, Father's Day became popularized in an 1928 Winthrop Fee Press article. Courier and Freeman, 6/14/1944, p. 6

Information Regarding Rev. James’ Departure

Over the generations, the wisdom has developed that when a departing minister leaves, they should have at least a year away from their former congregation, and we will be following that wisdom. “A year away” means that Rev. James will not contact or respond to us, and we will not contact him, including through mail, email, text, or phone. Rev. James will also unfriend members on Facebook, and he will not return for memorial services.

Might sound kind of harsh, but it is the prevailing wisdom for a reason. These departures can be a difficult adjustment for both parties, and it must be done well. Rev. James needs to bond with his new congregation, and we will need to bond with those who serve us next in ministry.

So, use this month to say goodbye well. Share with Rev. James the thoughts you have

about his time with us. Attend the service on June 21st filled with special music to honor

him – and hear his last Jack Noir tale!

And join in our goodbye celebration the weekend of June 27-28.

(Look for other announcements with details about the weekend events.)

Shamanic Drum/Journey Circle

Monday, May 22, 9:30 -11:00 am

Shamanism is an ancient healing practice where the student learns to journey to non-ordinary reality in the upper and lower worlds to meet and develop deep loving relationships with their trusting, compassionate, helping spirits, power animals and teachers. By creating a portal and through rhythmic drumming the practitioner moves easily from one reality to another expanding consciousness, receiving support, insight and healing. Joining in the collective spirit of the circle, allows us to share profound spiritual experience, song, and nature based ceremony. The Shamanic worldview is everything is alive. While having journeying knowledge and skills are helpful to participate in the circle, all are welcome.

Please contact Debra Mitchell at dmitchell317@twcny.rr.com beforehand. There will be several opportunities in the future to learn how to journey.
