Demonstrations of KINDNESS
Each week we focus on one of our seven community values, and those of us that choose to share how the community value is showing up in their lives. This week our community value is KINDNESS. Here's how KINDNESS is showing in the lives of some of our community members.
Harry: We practiced KINDNESS giving out a lot of candy on Friday and the kids showed up kindly in great costumes and they were kind when we asked them to only take one.
Mindy: I'm practicing KINDNESS by listening to and changing how I talk to myself. I was late for an appointment and couldn't reach the person to let them know. I was aware that I was running a negative narrative about how I had she wouldn't answer my call and I had ruined our friendship. Then we I got there she explained her phone wasn't working properly. I realized I can change to a kinder narrative when I'm talking to myself.
Dale: I practice KINDNESS with myself for many years in order to rejoin a group of people I have celebrated with once a year for about 25 years. When I got up to the Catskills this year, that love that I had and the ability to reach out and meet new people and connect with old friends with an open heart was the kindness that started inside me. I had a fabulous time.
Gabrielle: Giovanni, the new pup we adopted has some behavior problems due to past trauma. I came across a group of animal behaviorists in Britian that are providing me with professional guidance completely free of charge... just out of the KINDNESS of their hearts.
Amon: I am grateful for the KINDNESS and responsiveness of the head nurse where my mom stays. She has been very responsive to our questions and concerns.
And particularly from a distance, because my mom's in Texas, for her to be just so responsive and helpful in responding to emails at whatever time of the evening or day and picking up phone calls, that's just a kindness that makes this whole process easier.
Reggie: Someone offered to help me yesterday and started by saying, “There is no wrong answer here!” Meaning if I accepted, great! If I said “No thanks,” absolutely fine! A very kind way to offer support!
MaryAnne: I was KINDLY invited to participate in a huge Halloween fest basically. It was several blocks of people celebrating Halloween. People coming from outside of the immediate community with their children. It was like a little bit of heaven really. Hundreds and hundreds of parents, and children, and teenagers going up and down the street. The whole neighborhood and surrounding streets decorated to the hilt with lights and skeletons and zombies and you name it. And it was so much fun.
Rev. Rafe: I want to recognize the KINDNESS of my wife. Today was the memorial service of my NA sponsor that has been my sponsor for the entire 42 plus years I've been in recovery. I chose to stay here to care for Debra and things that are going on in our home. Yesterday when I came home from meeting with my own sponsee, she had created a little altar to Terry at my computer station to recognize the occasion. It was tremendously KIND.
HOW ARE YOU LIVING AND EXPERIENCING KINDNESS?
