Highlights of the July 24, 2024, Session Meeting

The meeting opened with a reading from Autopsy of a Deceased Church. The Session met with Richard Recob, who had requested that his membership be transferred from Brooklyn Presbyterian Church in Michigan to Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church. By unanimous votes, the Session joyfully agreed to receive Richard as a member and to take him under care as an Inquirer seeking ordination to the ministry. Soni Castleberry agreed to be liaison between Richard, the Session, and Mid-Kentucky Presbytery’s Committee on Preparation for Ministry.

Among other actions, the Session:

  • Received a report from treasurer Jack Marcum; agreed to create a line item in the church budget for monthly dinners before the NOW and OPS committee meetings and invite donations for the dinners.
  • Approved written agreements with the Jefferson County Master Gardener Association (JCMGA) and Sustainable Agriculture of Louisville (SAL), outlining collaboration between these organizations and CHPC in the use and enhancement of church grounds. Agreed to draft a letter to neighbors of the church updating them on these collaborations.
  • Heard an update on deferred maintenance issues, including replacement of the water line to the sanctuary building, loose paint removal and exterior painting. Agreed to draw on invested funds held by the church to pay for these projects, once bids are received and contractors are chosen to do the work.
  • Agreed to move ahead with an energy audit by Louisville Client Action Network. CHPC is one of 10 Presbyterian churches in Louisville selected for free energy audits by LCAN. Selected churches agree to spend at least $500 on energy-efficiency improvements for their buildings.
  • Heard a report from the Personnel Committee on the search for a new music director for CHPC.
  • Received with gratitude Pastor Tami Recob’s report that she successfully applied for a $1,000 grant for CHPC from Columbia Theological Seminary to be used to involve children in worship.

Did You Know?

What Presbyterians Believe (excerpts)- about the bible

The Bible is a collection of 66 individual books that together tell the story of a group of people bound by a common faith in God. It is divided into two main sections: the Old Testament, containing 39 books originally written primarily in Hebrew, and the New Testament, containing 27 books originally written primarily in Greek.

For Presbyterians and others of the Reformed tradition, the Bible is the means by which Christian believers come to understand how God has been present with humanity since the beginning of time and is present in our world today. By studying the Scriptures, we can begin to know of God’s faithfulness, constant love, and eternal goodness. https://www.presbyterianmission.org/what-we-believe/bible/
