Hello everyone, Happy Fall!

Welcome to the Autumn edition of Young Members eNewsletter! Whether you are an experienced podiatrist, young physician, resident, or simply someone eager to put their best foot forward, this newsletter has been carefully crafted just for you!

Last month, we successfully administered the Board Certification exam to hundreds of recent residency graduates. We can't wait to introduce them to the numerous opportunities ABPM has in store for them when results are released early next year.

In this newsletter, you will find a wealth of information and exciting opportunities to engage with matters pertinent to today's podiatrists. If you've ever wished to have a more significant impact on the content of our publications, we bring you wonderful news! Our Board umbrellas numerous committees, each eager to benefit from fresh perspectives and voices. All you have to do is check out the committee roster and send us your CV to get involved! I firmly believe that the future of our profession lies within the capable hands of our young members. Therefore, I wholeheartedly encourage anyone with an interest to actively engage and make a difference.

If committee service isn't feasible for you, we kindly request that you remain vigilant in your email inbox. Keep an eye out for two vital emails: one inviting you to vote for your Board Members, details are available here, and another seeking your input on proposed changes to the Board's Bylaws. We need your voice!

It's astonishing how quickly the year is drawing to a close, with three newsletters already shared and more on the horizon for the new year. For now, we hope you share a joyful and meaningful holiday season with loved ones as the temperatures drop and the year comes to an end!

Warm regards,

Katerina Grigoropoulos, DPM

ABPM Delivers Board Certification Exam to 400+ Applicants

On October 10th and 11th, the American Board of Podiatric Medicine delivered our Board Certification Exam to our 45th class of Diplomates. As part of our mission to Certify Today's Podiatrist, the primary board certification our exam represents is among the broadest in any medical specialty (other than MD and DOs boards). As a regional specialty, medical treatment of the foot and ankle covers everything from Anesthesiology to Wound Care. Because we certify in primary podiatric medicine, or primary care of the foot and ankle, and podiatric orthopedics, our certification covers a lot of territory. Diplomates certifying with the ABPM can rest assured that they are obtaining a broad and diverse area of expertise. We look forward to welcoming our 45th Class in just a few months!

ABPM at Current and Future Conferences

Hannah Khlopas, DPM

ABPM has been hitting the road since Summer's end, appearing at major conferences across the country to meet with our diplomates and expand the profession's knowledge of our Board Certification and subspecialty credential exams.

We have lately appeared at the prestigious American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine (AAPSM) Conference in Washington, D.C. where we met with diplomates and spread the word about our innovated Certificate of Added Qualification in Podiatric Sports Medicine.

This credential recognizes earned experience in sports medicine of the foot and ankle, acquired following Board Certification and may be earned at any point in a podiatrist's career. More information on our CAQ in Sports Med here!

A week later, we were present at the American Association of Women Podiatrists (AAWP) annual conference, just south in Alexandria, VA. The Board has long recognized the value of this conference to connect female practitioners with one another, particularly as the profession trends toward higher numbers of female physicians with each passing year.

Earlier appearances included the American Society of Podiatric Surgeons (ASPS), and American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Conference, as we forged deeper connections with surgeons in our profession, and looked to our allopathic counterparts for information on their latest findings and practices for their own diplomates.

Coming up in the next few months, the Board intends to remain active through the end of the year and beyond at various regional and national tradeshows and meetings relevant to the profession.

Goldfarb Clinical Conference - Coming up this weekend, ABPM will attend the Goldfarb Clinical Conference in Valley Forge, PA. An historically well attended Northeastern conference, the Board has exhibited at this conference almost since its inception.

ABPM will also attend the Desert Foot Conference in Phoenix Arizona, December 6-9, 2023. This event is well known for collecting experts across the profession for a comprehensive weekend dedicated to wound care and limb salvage. This is an area we are particularly passionate about, having developed an additional Certificate of Added Qualification in Amputation Prevention and Wound Care (CAQAP) for the Board Certified podiatrist with a practice history in diabetic foot care.

Following the holidays, ABPM will attend the New York State Podiatric Medical Association Annual Conference in January, followed by the FPMA's Science and Management Symposium (SAM) conference at the end of that month. February you will see us at the Present Treasure Hunt 2024.

We encourage our diplomates who may be attending any of these events to come find us in the exhibit halls and ask questions, gather information and connect with us. We'll have staff at each event available for diplomate needs of any kind and we look forward to seeing you in the near future!
