ACPE is thrilled to welcome Dr. Myron Krys (Dr. M.K.), PhD, MDiv, LPC for two thought-provoking sessions during the conference's Psychotherapy & Pastoral Counseling programming. The sessions, detailed below, offer an opportunity to go deeper into some of the complex questions shaping spiritually integrated psychotherapy and pastoral counseling today.
The Wound Has a Theology: Sexuality, Neurodivergence, and the Pastoral Reckoning You Can No Longer Defer
During this lunchtime general session, Dr. M.K. will explore theological trauma through the interconnected lenses of sexuality, neurodivergence, and racialized religious formation.
The session will expand upon how some of the struggles clients bring into counseling are rooted in the theological beliefs they have inherited about their bodies, desires, minds, identities, and worth.
Participants will be challenged to consider how pastoral counselors, psychotherapists, chaplains, educators, and other spiritual care professionals can better recognize and respond to the theological wounds clients may carry into spaces of care.
Who Is Sitting With Your Client? De-epidermalizing the Healer
Dr. Krys will return for a second session that turns the lens toward the practitioner, creating another opportunity for participants to examine the intersections of identity, formation, and the therapeutic relationship.
