Taylor Mac: Born to Run
Multitalented and multifaceted theater artist, Taylor Mac brings an electric musical performance to Provincetown Town Hall on Friday, August 9.
In the nearly eight years since that Pulitzer Prize-nominated piece launched Taylor onto the world stage, Mac (who prefers “judy” as a chosen pronoun) has toured internationally, received a MacArthur Fellowship and the Ibsen Prize, brought the multiple Tony-nominated Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus to Broadway and last year became the subject of an HBO original feature documentary film centered around History of Popular Music.
As an organization that proudly resides at the crossroads of entertainment and social justice, Payomet is tremendously excited to present Mac and company in the heart of one of the Cape’s most vibrant and diverse communities. Mac’s work is a celebration of wonder and ambiguity; history and revolution; magic and change!

The 18th Annual Provincetown Dance Festival Features World Premieres, Live Music, Boston Dance Theater and Jean Appolon Expressions at Edgewood Farm,
August 23rd and 24th
3 Edgewood Way, Truro
Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill is excited to be co-producing the 18th season of the Provincetown Dance Festival. The performances on August 23rd an 24th, will take place on the beautiful outdoor Sam’s Stage, at The Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill’s Edgewood Farm campus and will feature six different artists during the festival weekend.
This season, three nationally recognized companies will be making their debut appearances at the Provincetown Dance Festival, Boston Dance Theater, Ballet Rhode Island, and Jean Appolon Expressions (JAE): a company dedicated to celebrating the cultural heritage of Haiti.
In addition, internationally celebrated classical Indian dance virtuoso Rachna Agrawal returns with two works from this ancient dance tradition. The Provincetown Dance Festival has also commissioned a world premiere collaboration with one of its most popular artists, tap dancer, Khalid Hill: featuring live music.
As with every season, the Provincetown Dance Festival continues its commitment to the spirit of contemporary dance with the New York City based, Rovaco. Rovaco’s work explores the themes of relationships, sex, capitalism and queerness. Ballet Rhode Island brings compelling brand-new works to the festival, and Jean Appolon Expressions will present a different work for each evening: one, an evocation of traditional Haitian dance, and the other, a more contemporary work.
“I would say this season’s vibe is range and diversity,” says festival Artistic Director, Adam Miller. “I could not be happier with the wide scope of artists and new works we have this season. You could not have a more vibrant example of the infinite and profound possibilities of movement as art.” Miller continued, “Last year, we were forced to cancel due to weather, so we are all doubly excited that we will be back on stage this summer. This time, we’ll make sure to get the show on stage, with the following weekend slated as a weather back-up.”
The Provincetown Dance Festival’s co-producer is the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill. Castle Hill Executive Artistic Director, Cherie Mittenthal remarked, “This year’s festival is so beautifully aligned with Castle Hill’s overall artistic and community mission. It truly promotes a global artistic sensibility. This season is truly special! And we hope that you can see how exciting Dance can be on the beautiful Sam Stage, which we built specifically for Dance!”
This year’s festival is dedicated to Dian Reynolds. Her support and love of Dance and of Adam Miller (her son) have helped to make this festival a wonderful event!

Now in its 37th year, the legendary Provincetown Swim for Life & Paddler Flotilla, sponsored by the Provincetown Community Compact, is scheduled for Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Johnson Street Beach on Provincetown Harbor, and at Great Pond in Wellfleet. For information go to swim4life.org.
This post-Labor Day fundraiser, which has raised $6M+ for AIDS, women's health and the community since 1988, invites swimmers, volunteers, kayakers, boaters and the public to join this quintessential Provincetown tradition. The 2024 Swim design was created by Tim Convery of Tim-Scapes.
Compact Director and artist Jay Critchley states, “The Swim activates and honors the healing powers of the harbor and its bounty to the community. Let’s come together once again in a joyous celebration in the town that we all love and support.”
Beneficiaries of this year’s event include: AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod (ASGCC), Helping Our Women (HOW), Outer Cape Health Services, Provincetown Rescue Squad Association, Soup Kitchen in Provincetown (SKIP), Provincetown Schools, The Compact Community Fund, Accessible Provincetown, West End Racing Club, Cape Cod Children’s Place, Native Land Conservancy, Lily House and Summer of Sass.
Registration is available online and open until Swim day at Johnson Street Beach, also the location of the finish line for the 1.2-mile, East End shoreline swim route that starts at the beach at Snail Road. In line with the tide cycle, the event will start at 2:30 pm with transport to the Swim start provided by the Funk Bus. The famous Mermaid Brunch will be catered by longtime event sponsor, Far Land Provisions, with music by Provincetown’s own, Zoe Lewis.
A freshwater Swim will be held at Great Pond Swim in Wellfleet the morning of the harbor event and is limited to fifty swimmers. Swimmers across the country who are unable to join on the Cape are invited to swim virtually by Swimming In Place. During the 2020 pandemic, swimmers, bikers and paddlers participated and raised pledges in twenty-six states.
The Provincetown Community Compact is a non-profit organization established in 1993 to nurture the Provincetown and Outer Cape community. Its mission is to enhance the well-being of the community through projects that incorporate the arts, the environment and the economy. It has birthed eight non-profits such as the Provincetown International Film Festival, the Tennessee Williams Theater Festival, Provincetown Commons, Summer of Sass, Tim McCarthy Human Rights Champion Fund and Pilgrim Bark Park. The results position The Compact as an economic generator.

East End Books Ptown & WOMR Present:
Chef Rossi: The Punk-Rock Queen of the Jews: A Memoir on Rossi
August 15 at 6 PM. The book event will be held in the Davis event space at WOMR (2nd Floor), located at 494 Commercial Street. Outrageous, hysterical, and at times terrifying, Chef Rossi's second memoir takes readers back to her teenage years, where she comes out, comes of age, and throws off the oppressive misogyny of the Chasidic Jewish tradition.
Taught only to aspire to marry a nice Jewish boy and to be a good kosher Jewish girl, at 16 Rossi flowers into a rebellious punk-rock rule-breaker who runs away to seek adventure. Her freedom is cut short when her parents kidnap her and dump her with a Chasidic rabbi — a “cult buster” known for “reforming” wayward Jewish girls — in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
Rossi spends the following two years in a repressive, misogynistic culture straight out of the nineteenth century, forced to trade in her pink hair and Sex Pistols T-shirt for maxi skirts and long-sleeved blouses and endure not only bone-crushing boredom but also outright abuse and violence.

Effectively Building Your Brand
All businesses, large and small, are challenged with when trying to build their brand. The challenge is to find a way to connect with buyers who have a need, want or desire that you can fulfill. The process of brand building is taking buyers through the buying continuum.
Almost every buyer starts with being unaware of who you are, what you do and what your offer is in solving the “pains” they have to making your brand a “gain”. (see www.strategyzer.com) After you gain awareness, buyers need to understand and believe in your offer, then trust that you can bring value to them, leading them to buy, recommend or refer you to others Telling your brand story has to be cast in the buyer’s perspective not the sellers Here are some ways to build a brand?
Be data focused. Understand your SWOT. What are your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats?
Be observant and curious. Know your competitors. How is your value proposition being received? How can you deliver it in a more efficient and effective way to reduce your sales and marketing investments?
Be mindful. Do you now at what point your message connected with customers to buy more or new buyers to initiate the buying process.
Be imaginative. The key to brand building is positioning yourself in the mind of buyers so they see no suitable substitute.
Put a human face on your brand. Brands are perceptions. Perceptions become facts. Brand management is all about story telling.
Integrate your marketing. Effective brand building is part of an integrated marketing initiative (traditional and digital) that connects you with buyers at a variety of levels.
Making a positive connection with your brand message that demonstrates the values your brand represents is the foundation of building a positive brand that drives sales.

Future Wellfleet Habitat Cape Cod Homeowners
Will Have Locally Held Mortgages
Seamen’s Bank and Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod have formed an important partnership to help keep Habitat Cape Cod homeowners’ mortgages local and expedite the mortgage process for Habitat families. Seamen’s Bank has created a product with a similar structure to what has previously been offered to Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod homeowners through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Habitat Cape Cod’s President and CEO Wendy Cullinan stated, “This is a perfect example of the community coming together to make a difference in the lives of young families struggling to work and live on Cape Cod.”
The first Seamen’s Bank mortgages will benefit the four future homeowners of Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod’s upcoming build in Wellfleet on Old Kings Highway. A Community & Volunteer Kickoff event and a Wall Raising Ceremony are expected to take place in October for the four homes. Seamen’s Bank is a longtime supporter and major donor of Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod. “We know local housing is a crisis, and to be able to support our communities through this partnership with Habitat for Humanity Cape Cod by providing local financing options for their clients is why we are a community bank,” said Lori Meads, President, and CEO of Seamen’s Bank.
Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod has completed over 180 homes on Cape Cod and is currently building in Brewster, Dennis, and Wellfleet. Additional builds are planned for Yarmouth, Marstons Mills, Falmouth, Brewster, Orleans, and Sandwich. Qualifying families are selected via drawing, and future homeowners contribute sweat equity, helping build their homes alongside local volunteers, then purchase their homes with an affordable mortgage. Habitat Cape Cod has been awarded nationally for building energy-efficient, affordable homes. All homes are deed-restricted to remain affordable in perpetuity.
