You Helped Clear The Shelters
You showed up as Second Chance Champions to help 35 cats and dogs find their loving, committed homes. Your generosity enabled us to meet our match goal of $20,000, which goes directly to helping the pets still waiting to be adopted.
| | After waiting nearly a year at Abandoned Pet Rescue, Peele found his Second Chance Champion named Rachel who drove from South Carolina to meet him. Rachel, a former APR volunteer, wanted to help a senior dog and fell in love with Peele's friendly disposition and was touched by his story. Peele had previously been living in a car with his original mom who refused to move into affordable housing because it meant giving him up. When APR was able to provide a safe shelter for Peele, this also provided Peele's mom a chance to receive the help she needed. | | Peele is now settled into his new home, which opens up the opportunity for another dog to have a second chance. Peele represents one of the many pets that you helped during Clear the Shelters. Thank you to NBC Universal Local, presented by Hills Nutrition, for hosting this national campaign to promote pet adoption. | | |

SUNSHINE
404 DAYS WAITING
|
Sunshine will brighten your life with her sweet personality! This 2-year-old Terrier/Hound mix is about 40 lbs and loves playing with other dogs. Her foster family says she’s smart, sweet, and eager to learn. She’s already potty and crate trained and is working on leash manners and basic commands. Sunshine loves snuggling and would thrive with an active, committed family.
Sunshine is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to find her forever home!

"I started volunteering after losing my 20-year-old childhood rescue cat, Yogi. Spending time with the other rescues was cathartic for me, but it also provides benefits for them. Working with the timid cats is the most rewarding aspect of volunteering. When you finally reach a milestone, such as a cat walking out to greet you when you enter their room, letting you pet them, and eventually playing with you, the patience and effort put in are completely worthwhile. I also help capture photos and videos of each cat to help showcase them at their best. I hope that my work helps these cats find homes that give them a long, happy life, just like Yogi."
