Magic of the Trident Experience

We have had a great opening to the school year, and there is an unmistakable electricity on Trident Academy’s campus this fall. While every new school year brings a sense of possibility, the energy launching this fall semester feels entirely unprecedented.

If you have walked through our doors or driven past campus recently, you have likely noticed our refreshed look. From the newly renovated Makerspace and Library, to the fresh coat of paint on our buildings, the physical updates have certainly brought a vibrant, welcoming new look to our environment, boosting morale and school pride across the board. But as impactful as these surface improvements are, they are merely the backdrop for what truly drives our mission.

The real magic lives within our people.

Over the summer, we set out to build an extraordinary team, and our new hires have hit the ground running. Their immediate contributions, innovative ideas, and sheer dedication have already made a profound impact on our daily operations and culture. Supporting both our new additions and our veteran educators, we kicked off the year with intensive, specialized in-service training. Designed specifically around the nuances of learning disabilities, this professional development isn’t a one-time event—it is an ongoing, multi-year commitment to refining our craft.

Every piece of this foundation—the inspiring spaces, the exceptional faculty, and the continuous specialized training— trickles down directly into the classroom.

And, as a result, we are already witnessing learning at an exceptionally high level. Because our educators are equipped with the latest research-backed strategies and a deep empathy for how our students learn best, our classrooms have become launchpads for confidence. We are watching our students lean into challenges, take academic risks, and push themselves to new heights—all while feeling completely safe, understood, and supported every step of the way.

Thank you to our parents, alumni, and supporters for believing in our mission and making this vibrant community possible. We are off to a remarkable start, and the best is yet to come. Finally, for those of you who have not been to campus in a while, I would like to extend an open invitation to visit this fall. You don’t even have to make an appointment. Just stop by, and one of our administrators will show you around and share the ever-evolving magic of the Trident experience.

Warm regards,

Hacker Burr

SEAHAWK SUMMER:

What started as a simple question in Earth Science—"What is in the soil beneath our feet?"—has grown into a powerful design-thinking initiative: How can we use Earth Science to make a meaningful impact on our own campus?

Yesterday felt like the very definition of community. Our high school students presented their initial research, budgets, and project designs directly to school administrators. The meeting brought students and leadership together to celebrate the curiosity and rigorous science our students have been diving into since day one.

In just one month, our high schoolers have:

  • Conducted field research and soil investigations.
  • Collaborated with experts at Clemson University.
  • Analyzed data and iterated their proposed campus solutions.
  • Connected classroom science directly to real-world community impact.

Taking the feedback from yesterday's presentation, students are heading back into the field to collect and analyze their second and third round of soil samples. They’ll use these new insights to refine their designs, adjust their budgets, and perfect their final proposals. They are just getting started!

Walk into any classroom at Trident Academy, and you’ll rarely see our students sitting back. Our students thrive because they learn by touching, feeling, hearing, and collaborating with one another—it’s what makes our approach unique and effective.

This week, our Lower School math classes brought big concepts to life by: Solving addition in the hundreds by regrouping—right on their desks! Collaborating to organize and match numbers written in different formats.

When learning is active, engaging, and fun, concepts truly stick!

Our morphology class put on their surgical gear and picked up their scalpels (highlighters)... they performed morpheme analysis, making clean cuts for each morpheme in the word. In their organ transplant, a.k.a. "morpheme swap", students transplanted and sutured a new word together!

Our Lower School scientists are investigating how sound travels as vibrations using cups and string. Check out the final project on sound where our students made a lions roar on our Instagram here!
