Dear Symmetry Health Center Family,

This month, our newsletter focuses on the research that makes everything we do possible. Approximately 25 years ago, I watched Dr. Thomas Dandrea, my dear friend and mentor put into practice what he'd learned from Dr. Don Harrison, the founder of Chiropractic BioPhysics®. That evening at Life University changed the course of my life, and it's why I now sit on the board of CBP® Non-Profit, the organization that funds the science behind our care.

In this week's blog, I share that full-circle story, from New Jersey to Alameda, from student to board member, and why I'm asking our patients to consider supporting CBP Non-Profit®. Even small monthly gifts compound into real research funding, and every dollar goes directly to advancing structural chiropractic care.

Understanding Chiropractic BioPhysics®

A closer look at the approach behind our corrective care

You may have heard us mention Chiropractic BioPhysics® (CBP®) during your visits, but what exactly does it mean?

CBP® is a research-based approach to chiropractic care that focuses on the structure, alignment, and function of the spine. Rather than looking only at where you hurt, CBP® uses detailed assessments of posture and spinal alignment to help develop an individualized care plan.

Depending on the patient's needs, care may include specific chiropractic adjustments, corrective exercises, traction, and other structural rehabilitation techniques. The goal is to use objective information about the spine to help guide care.

Why Does Spinal Structure Matter?

Your spine isn't simply a straight stack of bones. Its curves and alignment help distribute forces throughout the body as you stand, walk, move, and perform everyday activities.

Recent research has continued to explore how different aspects of spinal structure, including pelvic shape, lumbar curvature, and vertebral shape, relate to spinal alignment and conditions such as chronic low back pain.

That's why CBP® takes a closer look at the individual structure of each patient's spine rather than assuming that one approach works for everyone.

Laura Navarrete and Emily Turrentine Complete CBP® Basic Certification Series in Eagle, Idaho

We’re proud to celebrate two of our chiropractic interns, Laura Navarrete and Emily Turrentine, on completing the week-long Chiropractic BioPhysics® (CBP®) Basic Certification Series in Eagle, Idaho!

The intensive 70-hour program covered CBP® fundamentals, Drop Table Adjusting, and cervical, lumbar, and thoracic rehabilitation. Both Laura and Emily are already bringing what they learned back into the clinic and applying it to patient care.

We’re excited to see how they continue to grow as future chiropractors and are grateful to have them as part of the Symmetry Health Center team. 👏

When the Pelvis Stops Guiding the Spine

What happens when the natural relationship between the pelvis and lumbar spine changes? This article explores recent research on pelvic morphology and lumbar lordosis and why individual anatomy matters when looking at spinal alignment.

When a Rounded Back Is More Than "Bad Posture"

A newly published case report followed a 26-year-old man with Scheuermann's disease, a condition causing a pronounced rounded upper back, whose biggest concern wasn't pain, but how his posture affected his confidence and even disqualified him from a career path he wanted. Over three months of Chiropractic BioPhysics® care and 28 months of follow-up, his disability score dropped to zero and his quality-of-life scores improved, a good reminder that structural rehabilitation isn't only about pain relief, but can meaningfully change how someone feels about themselves.

Why Vertebral Shape Matters: New Research on Lumbar Lordosis and Chronic Low Back Pain

A 2026 study set out to answer a simple but important question: does the actual bony shape of the lumbar vertebrae predict the curve of your low back, separate from the shape of your pelvis, and does that change in people with chronic pain? The answer was yes on both counts. Researchers found that in patients with chronic low back pain, the usual link between pelvis and low-back curve often breaks down, but vertebral shape remains a strong, reliable predictor. This reinforces something central to how we evaluate spinal alignment here at Symmetry: measuring the whole lumbar column gives a clearer picture of what's really going on.
