Dear colleague,
I am reaching out to encourage you to participate in a special survey about the paperwork and administrative tasks that clutter up your day. Whether poorly designed or just downright unnecessary, we need your feedback to help guide our continued advocacy to reduce your administrative burdens.
📣 Click here to take the survey. It’s open until Thursday, August 21.
Your feedback will help to set provincial and national priorities to reduce the time you waste on paperwork and unnecessary administrative tasks. We know taking a survey is itself an administrative request, but it’s essential to hear what’s weighing you down so we can advocate for the solutions with the biggest impact. The survey should take approximately 10–15 minutes, and it is confidential.
This is actually the first national physician survey on administrative burden, conducted as a partnership between the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) and the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB). Nationally, your feedback will help to target efforts on federal government and insurance company forms, while provincially Doctors Manitoba will use your insights to press for health system, provincial, and employer changes that will lighten your day.
All physicians are encouraged to complete the survey, to ensure we get a good cross section of specialties, practice locations, and geography.
We conducted our first administrative burden survey over 2 years ago. We found physicians spend 10+ hours per week, on average, on administrative tasks, with 44% of that deemed overly complicated, duplicative, or unnecessary. Your feedback has guided our work on many fronts:
- Eliminating unnecessary documentation on virtual visits, discharge face sheets, and vaccine tracking.
- Addressing the log in burden in some settings.
- Supporting the introduction of AI Scribes.
- Simplifying Manitoba Families Disability Medical Assessment forms.
- Developing recommendations to eliminate sick notes.
- Avoiding new additional documentation requirements on all prescriptions
- In the months ahead we will be focusing on referrals and consultations, with the intention of re-thinking the process so it works better for both referring and consulting physicians.
Please take the time to complete this new survey by August 21, so we guide our advocacy in a way that will have the biggest impact for our medical community.
You can always send additional comments about administrative burdens to us directly at adminburden@doctorsmanitoba.ca.
Thank you,
