A Community of Belonging

A Parish Conversation on Children, Youth, & Families

September 6 following worship

In the service of Baptism, immediately before the Congregation says the Baptismal Covenant, the bishop or priest asks if all "who witness these vows [will] do all in your power to support these persons in their life in Christ." It is a reminder that while Baptisms are done individually, and parents and Godparents promise to see that the child they present "is brought up in the Christian faith of life," all members of the Church share the responsibility of supporting the spiritual development of our children and youth.

When we identified parish priorities in 2022, based on the results of a Congregational Assessment Tool, one of those related to prioritizing our ministry to children and youth. Our conversations with you have demonstrated that you continue to think that is a vital priority for our parish. With that in mind, Kay Lee has focused her work on vestry this year on gathering information from parents, teachers, and others about how we live more deeply into that commitment. It is now time for us to broaden that conversation to the wider community.

On Sunday, September 6, we will gather in the parish hall after worship for a parish meeting on the future of our ministry to children, youth, and families. The clergy and Vestry want to share with you what we have been hearing from parents, talk more about our parish priority, hear from you what you are dreaming about for the future of this ministry, and talk about what commitment is needed from all of us as we look to the future.
