Dear Friend -
The Mittens Season is rolling along, with more of our Distribution Partners receiving their boxes of new mittens and gloves. While we are not able to hold our annual community collection due to Covid-19 health concerns, handmade and store-bought pairs are coming in from you with your mailed pairs and financial donations. Every dollar helps, and every pair helps. Thank you so much! We have distributed about 6,000 pairs so far this season. YOU are making a difference!
Since October, we have been very fortunate to be able to purchase more than 2,000 pairs of warm gloves with grants we have received. Hundreds of senior citizens will receive pairs purchased with a very generous grant from the Mary Thompson Foundation. Next week we will be receiving grant funds from Eagles for Children, once again enabling us to purchase new warm pairs for Head Start and school children. The request for warm gloves from Michigan Veterans Foundation (an 11 year Distribution Partner) was funded by a wonderful grant from the Detroit Tigers Foundation. More on that below!
We have had several Collection Partners pivot from MittenRaisers to hosting Giving Pages to help raise funds to buy warm pairs. This is a very easy way to involve remote workers who want to once again donate to Mittens for Detroit - many of whom look forward to their annual collection box or mitten tree. A Giving Page is branded with your logo and information, and it is free of charge to you and MFD both. If you are interested in a Giving Page for your office, company, or organization, please contact me!
We need you and your support. More than ever. Your financial donations help us not only keep the doors open, we can purchase exactly the size pairs that we need... especially for the teens and adults. When we receive grants, we add additional donation funds to the purchase to allow us to order even more pairs at great prices. Every dollar makes a difference - and your donations have a great impact on those who will be facing the bitter cold which we know is just weeks away.
Thank you for all of your support, year after year!
Warmly,
Wendy Shepherd, Executive Director, Mittens for Detroit
and
The MFD Board of Directors
