During the week of Jan. 3, the members of the Hinsdale High School Teachers Association (HHSTA) ratified a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that extends its current collective bargaining agreement with the District 86 Board of Education (approved Jan. 28, 2021) by one year. The board unanimously approved the MOU during its meeting on Jan. 13.

Below are the updates/changes to the agreement that will result from the passage of the MOU.

  • The contract, which was set to expire on June 30, 2022, will now run through June 30, 2023.

  • The base salary will increase in accordance with the consumer price index (CPI). That increase will be 1.4% for the 2022-23 school year.

  • Other pay rates (i.e., summer curriculum work, internal substitution, extra-curricular stipends, etc.) will also increase by 1.4%.

All other provisions of the current contract will remain the same, but will be extended by a year in accordance with the MOU.

Joint Statement Regarding the Extension of the HHSTA Contract
The board of education, district administration and Hinsdale High School Teachers Association (HHSTA) have been engaged in a positive and productive dialogue about the future of our teacher contract. While that dialogue has reinforced our commitment to working toward and achieving a long-term deal, it also galvanized our shared belief that helping our students, staff, schools and community successfully navigate the pandemic must remain our top priority at this time.

With this goal in mind, we have agreed to a one-year extension of the current teacher contract, which will now run through the 2022-23 school year. By extending the contract, we can reward the hard work and dedication of our educators, provide additional time and opportunity to collaborate on a new agreement, and, most importantly, keep our energy and attention fully focused on meeting the needs of our students.

We want to thank the representatives from HHSTA, the board and the administration who led this process. Your tireless efforts helped us reach a decision that will truly benefit our entire district and enable us to effectively address the ongoing challenges created by COVID-19. We want to thank the community for its unwavering support of our schools, especially in the face of so much adversity the past couple of years. We also want to thank our students for the tremendous joy and sense of purpose they instill in us. We look forward to continuing the important work we do with them on a daily basis to help them down the path toward their ideal future.
