General PTO Meeting January 12th

Please join us for our second general PTO meeting on January 12th at 7 PM in the KRS multipurpose room. It is a great day to hear about upcoming events, share suggestions or ideas, and meet fellow KRS parents. Light refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!

Get Ready…It’s almost time for the KRS GLOW PARTY!!

Friday January 27 from 4:30-6:30 pm at KRS

What is the KRS Glow Party?

The KRS Glow Party is a PTO family event for all KRS students in grades K-5. Ticketholders will be able to hang out in the blacked-out KRS gym and “glow crazy” with a live DJ, glow in the dark accessories, and their friends in the black lights!

There will also be rooms set up for breaks from the dark fun with crafts, snacks and a movie.

Who can go to the glow party?

Any KRS student and their elementary school aged siblings who may attend other schools. Unfortunately, due to gym capacity and safety, children younger or older

than K-5th cannot attend. Also, each student must attend with an adult chaperone who is a KRS student parent/guardian (family babysitters or older siblings under

18yrs are not approved chaperones for this event).

What about the adults?

Chaperones are welcome to join the fun! And since space is limited, remember carpooling is cool! A group of friends can all come with one chaperone. Or a chaperone can come one on one with their student.

How much does all this fun cost?

Ticket price is $10/student and free for adult chaperones and volunteers. If the event sells out, there will be a waitlist available. Tickets are available in our KRS

PTO store on Square (https://krs-19.square.site).

What does my ticket include?

Your child’s ticket includes admission to the fun and music, a variety of glow accessories and all glow crafts and nut-free snacks (GF options available).

Can I help out?

Yes, please! We need volunteers to help set-up and run our event. Sign up Genius links are below!

Just as a reminder…

Please realize this is a dark event. While there are lighted break rooms, the gym will be completely dark except for black lights. Also, there might be strobe lights. Kindly

keep this in mind when purchasing a ticket for your child.

Parent Volunteers needed to help paint the new KRS Mural!

1/15-1/20

We are so excited to announce that the talented muralist Caren Olmsted is headed back to KRS this month to begin working with the students on the beautiful new outdoor mural! Many thanks to Ms. Bihuniak and Mr. Thompson for writing an MEF grant and working so closely with the MEF and the KRS PTO for this special, unique project.

The forward-facing retaining wall in front of KRS will be addressed in a creative fashion. The goal is to bring a sense of unity and artistry to our community of Madison and KRS. The mural itself will incorporate themes from the Madison School District and the Borough. The image will be printed out on a parachute cloth. Students will assist in the painting of the imagery on the parachute cloth. Once all painting is completed the mural will be permanently adhered to the retaining wall surface, a clear coat of varnish will be added to ensure the mural will last for as long as possible. A project of this magnitude will have a direct positive impact to the surrounding area as it will enhance the current retaining wall. By bringing in a professional mural artist we believe that we can work together to create an image that represents the community for years to come.

But, we need YOUR help! Please consider signing up to volunteer at the link below; volunteers will be asked to assist the students with their work, wash brushes and supplies between classes, touch-up the mural as needed, wipe up spills, etc. It is a great opportunity to get involved!

KRS Parent Spotlight

This week we're recognizing a powerhouse fundraiser in our community: Jessica Doniger!

My family and I have been fundraising for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society since early 2016. We participated in Muckfest, one of the National MS Society’s yearly events and were the top fundraising team from 2016-2019 raising close to $75,000!! My husband Brad and I recently began to co-chair the Morris County Community Engagement Council and made our debut at Bottle Hill Day last year! Our mission is outreach to the local community to educate and expand awareness of Multiple Sclerosis and available resources. We are always looking for people to get involved, if you are interested I am happy to chat!!!

If you or another parent you know has exciting news to share about a project, endeavor or a talent, we would love to showcase them in a future PAW! Please email us: krspto@madisonnjps.org.

Volunteer Love

Thank you to all of the parents and caregivers who stocked the teachers’ room with all kinds of goodies and sent in delicious cookies for the staff to enjoy. Everyone was very excited and grateful to the KRS parent community for being so generous and thoughtful! Seeing all of the volunteer slots fill up is a fabulous reminder of what a special place KRS is!

Thank you again!
