Workplace Conflict Resolution, Coaching &
Respectful Divorces for Professionals

Greetings!
We can all agree that it's better to work in an environment where we feel safe and respected, rather than a workplace that is full of tension, stress, and conflict. Over the next three months, I'll explore the impact a negative workplace may have on one's life in three categories:
- Physical Health (October)
- Family and Friends (November)
- Your Outlook on Your Professional Future (December)
Caustic Work Environments Impact Our Physical Health.
Work atmospheres impact our physical health, there's no way around it. We spend more waking hours at work than we do with our friends and families. And if we're miserable, slogging through a toxic atmosphere, that will get filtered through our bodies. Even though this is common knowledge, some people don't unpack what it means for
their
lives. So, I want to share some of the problems I've witnessed in my clients.
They tend to:
- be sick more often (and lose work time for doctor appointments and recovery);
- be sick for longer periods of time;
- complain of tension headaches:
- have more fitful sleep, which sometimes leads to less patience and shorter tempers;
- have ailments that were never an issue before; (posture, joints, immune system, feet, etc);
- have little or no energy to:
- exercise
- play with their kids
- hike, bike and explore
- coach their kids' teams
- join their friends and family when they have outdoor adventures;
- stress eat with volume, which may lead to uncomfortable weight gain;
- stress eat with fast food;
- spend more on massages and other physical therapies;
- be sick for a portion of their vacation; and
- self-isolate which may lead to depression or increased anxiety (commonly avoiding calls/time with family and friends).
You might be thinking: "Genesis! What a downer! It's lovely outside, why are you talking about this?"
Because people often don't realize what they've given up for the privilege of hating their jobs!
---
If you know someone who's miserable at work, encourage them to
do something about it
. Why are they miserable? Is it the team? the hours? the boss? the location? the lack of advancement? harassment? or even just knowing it's time for a change and feeling stuck? There are tons of wonderful resources out there.
Encourage them to act.
And if they want to start small, by learning how to communicate better in the office, my free workplace toolkit is
available right here.
