A Sweet Success: Thank You to Our Western Mass Legislators! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for last week’s Legislators and Cookies event! We were thrilled to welcome local legislators from across Western Massachusetts, along with nonprofit colleagues who brought thoughtful questions about their work, plus key legislative and budget priorities. Events like these remind us how vital open dialogue is for building strong, supported communities.

Missed the event? It’s not too late to connect! If you weren't able to attend, we encourage you to reach out and invite your legislator for a site visit. Our elected officials care deeply about the region and genuinely want to learn more about the direct impact nonprofits have on their constituents. Inviting them into your space is a powerful way to share your mission and show your work in action. Thank you again to our legislators and partners for making our community stronger!

Mapping rent change across the state

Discover more about the pressure of rising housing costs in our area with this new report from MassBudget. Rents have risen faster than inflation in three-quarters of Massachusetts communities over the past decade, according to a new report and interactive map. The findings underscore the growing housing affordability crisis facing residents across the Commonwealth, as rising rents make it increasingly difficult for families to find and maintain affordable housing.

Mapping Rent Changes Across Massachusetts uses U.S. Census data to track changes in median gross rent from 2015 to 2024 across 328 Massachusetts cities and towns. The analysis finds that 246 communities experienced rent increases exceeding inflation, while 89 saw rents rise to more than twice the rate of inflation.

Celebrate 10 years with the NRC

For ten years, the Northampton Recovery Center has offered a safe, welcoming and peer-driven community for people following all pathways and stages of recovery—and for the families, friends and allies who walk beside them. This anniversary gathering on November 13th will bring together participants, volunteers, community partners and neighbors to recognize a decade of connection and help build the foundation for the NRC’s next ten years. The evening will include a Silent Auction and opportunities to learn about and support the center’s ongoing work.

Established in 2016, the Northampton Recovery Center is a safe, peer-driven community that provides a positive welcoming environment for people on all pathways and in all stages of recovery from addiction, as well as for their families, friends, and allies.
