Closing day is an exciting milestone for buyers and sellers alike. To complete the process of a home sale, a property’s ownership rights are formally transferred from the seller to the buyer. Here’s what you should know about deeds and titles:
NOTE: Consumer guides do not constitute any change in NAR policy. Real estate professionals must ensure they market properties consistent with relevant MLS rules and educate sellers on the choices available.

NAR's Consumer Guide Series
MORE New Guide This Week:
Deeds and Titles
National Association of REALTORS®
|
NAR continues to roll out our “Consumer Guide” series, and they are pleased to share the latest resources on offers of compensation for home sellers. These resources cover the process and options available for offering compensation to a buyer’s agent and the reasons why this may be a compelling strategy for sellers to consider when marketing their property.
NAR hopes you are finding these resources to be useful, and they encourage you to continue to distribute them to inquiring consumers so they are armed with the information they need as they begin working with an agent who is a REALTOR®.

3-2-1 Capitol Connection:
April 3, 2025
Colorado Association of REALTORS
| First, the Colorado Association of REALTORS® (CAR) helped recently defeat a bill where a single transaction could have resulted in a Colorado Consumer Protection Act (CCPA) claim against a REALTOR® with severe penalties. Senate Bill 157 “Deceptive Trade Practice Significant Impact Standard” would have reduced the public impact test threshold to “having the capacity to injure” the public, which effectively brings down the evidence requirement to one single person’s claim. CAR opposed this bill from its inception because it exposes Realtors® to deceptive trade practice penalties of $20,000 per violation including treble damages and attorney costs that are not covered by E&O insurance. The bill died on the Senate floor with 7 Democrats joining all 12 Republicans to defeat the bill 19-16. | | |
