Leadership in Action: Chamber Board Members & Trustee Luncheon at Cambria Hotel

Board Members and Trustee Members gathered at Cambria Hotel to hear from Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis at our recent luncheon. This insightful meeting provided a platform for discussing key initiatives and the city's vision for economic development. We're grateful for the engaged participation and look forward to continued collaboration in driving Fort Lauderdale's growth and prosperity. We'd also like to congratulate our Trustee Plus members, Kelley Kronenberg and Waste Management, for receiving their Trustee Plus Chamber Kit.

Member of the Month: Johnnie Mejia

Johnnie Mejia is passionate about mentorship, leadership, and community collaboration! With over 21 years of experience in the financial services industry, he relocated to Fort Lauderdale from Miami in 2019 and became an active member of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce through PNC Bank. Johnnie said, “When I attended the Downtowner of the Year event, I caught my first glimpse of the professionalism and passion the Chamber has in elevating community and businesses throughout Broward County. I knew then I wanted to contribute individually to help make an impact on the economic success for the Chamber and its membership.”

Upon joining the Gay+Lesbian Business Exchange (GLBX) Referral Advantage Leads Group he was elected as Vice Chair and became Chair in 2022. “It was during the pandemic and participation in the Chamber Leads Groups had dwindled, we knew we had to find new ways to generate business through valuable networking opportunities.” said Johnnie. It was with his leadership and piloting several meaningful discussions amongst the group, they were able to create/host impactful events and cultivate inclusive spaces bringing people together in meaningful and supportive ways. This is a reminder of the thoughtful words by Japanese writer Ryunosuke Satoro, “Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.”...Click Here for Full Story

City Commission Approves Funds for Asphalt Milling and Resurfacing Projects

Fort Lauderdale's roads are getting a facelift! The City Commission has given the green light to a hefty street improvement plan, approving a $4 million agreement for citywide asphalt milling and resurfacing. This two-year deal comes with the potential to stretch to four years and double in value to $8 million.

The project isn't just about slapping down new pavement. It's a comprehensive overhaul including fresh asphalt, crisp new road markings, and strategic milling to level out those bumpy rides. Priority will go to streets ranking poorly on the Pavement Condition Index.
