EIP 2026: Cirque — Update & Teaser

Dear AL Community,

Our Académie Lafayette staff are just as excited to be part of Evening in Paris, and they have helped create some truly special experiences for our students. Take a look at some of the adventures waiting to be won at this year’s auction:

  • French cooking lessons: You and a friend will make a quiche, a "tarte aux pommes" and/or "pains au chocolat" with Oak Vice-Principal Mme Werner in your kitchen or in hers.

  • A day on the ice: Cherry teacher Mme Marchand was a figure skater for 20+ years. She wants to teach your student and a friend some skills!

  • Bird watching trip: Your student and a friend will go hiking and bird watching at Weston State Bend Park with Cherry teacher Mme O’Flaherty! They will enjoy beignets at a local coffee shop after.

  • Chichiguas at Gillham park: Armour music teacher M. Gallo-Balma will teach your student how to make their own Caribbean kite! They will build, decorate and fly their kite with a picnic lunch after.

  • Tea time gathering: Your student and four of their friends will enjoy afternoon tea and pastries with ALIHS teacher M. Pitts-Zevin during Fox Time!

The silent auction opens virtually

Friday, May 1st at 5:00 pm.

Bookmark www.academielafayette.org/eip for easy access!

Cool fact: The One, Two and Three Light buildings will be lit up blue on May 2 to represent AL and EIP (more downtown buildings hopefully coming)!

Tickets are still available, but they will not last forever. Now is the time to claim your spot and still have time to find the perfect Cirque outfit!

We still need volunteers, especially for clean-up that night after the event ends. If you are able to lend a hand, please reach out to Hollie Vogel at hvogel@academielafayette.org.

Cherry Families: Road Closure Notice

Please be advised that Cherry Street will be closed on Monday and Tuesday (4/13-14). We apologize for the inconvenience it may cause.

  • Arrival: All bus and car rider drop-off will take place on Kenwood. Heavy traffic is expected, so please plan accordingly.
  • Midday Pick-Up: Parents picking up students during the school day for appointments should park in the church lot on Kenwood and walk through the alley to the main entrance on Cherry.
  • Dismissal: Buses will load on Kenwood, which will impact the car rider line. Please anticipate delays and allow additional time. Supervised walkers and Kindergarten families may park in the church lot and pick up students at their usual doors.

Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we work to ensure the safety of all students during this temporary disruption.

May Math Club for 5th Graders

After-school math club for 5th graders at both Cherry and Oak will start around the beginning of May. At Oak, we will have math club on Thursday April 30th and May 7th, 14th, and 21st. At Cherry, we will have math club on Tuesdays in May. Math club will start right after school and end at 4:30 pm. There is no cost or fee required to participate. In math club, we play some math-adjacent games, we explore a few topics outside the regular curriculum, and we do some math competition problems, which help stretch the kids' math minds. If you think your 5th grader might be interested and wants to register, or if you have any questions, email Bill Kalahurka, bkalahurka@academielafayette.org.

Cherry Beautification Day - 4/19

Join us on Sunday, April 19th, from 10 am to noon for a community work day to get the Cherry campus ready for spring. We will be weeding flower beds, spreading mulch, planting annuals, and picking up trash. We also have a special project planned to add a decorative design and barrier to the playground fence.

To help the morning run smoothly, please bring any of the following if you have them:

  • Rakes and shovels
  • Wagons or wheelbarrows
  • Gardening gloves and trash bags
  • Small hand trowels or weeding tools

This is a family-friendly event, and all students and community members are welcome to participate. We look forward to working together to make our campus shine.

AL Booster Club Presents: AL Outstanding Coach Award

Nominations are now open for the AL Booster Club's first annual Outstanding Coach Award. We are looking for stories of coaches who have made a lasting impact on their athletes, fostered a culture of sportsmanship, and demonstrated dedication to the AL community. All nominations must be submitted by May 10th.

Who is eligible: Any coach of an official AL sport for the 2025-2026 school year.

How to nominate: Please share a brief story or explanation of why your AL coach is outstanding.

Host Families Needed for 26-27

Become a host family for a French intern in 2026-2027! Interns are carefully matched with host families who open their hearts and homes to these wonderful individuals. A private bedroom and meals when you are together is all that's required. In return, host families experience the joy of language immersion and cultural exchange within their own household. Don't let this opportunity pass you by – seize the chance to make your home a beacon of hospitality and warmth!

Please contact: Crista Peeler (Oak), cpeeler@academielafayette.org or Danielle Coates (Cherry), dcoates@academielafayette.org.

Title I Spring Informational Meeting

The Académie Lafayette Title I Spring Informational Meeting will be Tuesday, April 14th from 6 to 7 pm in the Cherry Campus auditorium. ** Please note that while this meeting is taking place at the Cherry campus, the information is relevant to all campuses. **

As a Schoolwide Title I school, all AL families are welcome. Parents of students receiving Supplemental Instruction services, including After School Academic Support, Reading Intervention (Cherry and Oak), or French paraprofessional support (Oak), are especially encouraged to attend and share feedback. The meeting will cover Title I parent rights, program services, and future planning.

If you are able to attend, please email the Supplemental Instruction (Title I) Coordinator, Keith Christensen, at kchristensen@academielafayette.org and specify how many people will be in your group. Please also know that we are available to answer questions and address concerns at any time by email. Online meetings are also possible by appointment.

2026 Musketeer March Final Statistics

That’s a wrap — Musketeer March 2026 has officially come to a close with a grand total of $108,035 raised. The Académie Lafayette community continues to show how special it is, consistently coming together to support a shared goal and, in this case, surpassing it by more than $23,000!

We would not have been able to set a new Musketeer March fundraising record without each and every one of you. Thank you for showing up, supporting your students, sharing their pages and helping spread the word near and far. THANK YOU!

Details for the 5th grade pizza and popsicle picnic celebration will be shared soon.
