Dear Saint Mark Family,
When I look at Saint Mark, I see a congregation whose faith makes a difference. I see people finding a spiritual home, neighbors receiving care, and lives being changed by the love of Christ. I am grateful for what we share, and hopeful about what God is calling us to do next.
On November 1, we begin our stewardship campaign, Made for This Moment: Faithful now. Hopeful forward. Through November 22, we will explore what it means to offer God our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness—and how these commitments shape our life together.
Our theme echoes the story of Esther. When her Jewish people faced grave danger, Mordecai asked whether she had come to her position “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14). Esther faced a courageous decision, but she did not face it alone. Before approaching the king, she asked the Jewish community in Susa to gather and fast with her (Esther 4:16).
Throughout this campaign, as Esther invited her community to fast with her, I invite you to join me in daily prayer and to choose a practice of fasting that helps you make room for God. You might fast from a meal on selected days, if appropriate for your health, or set aside social media, television, or another distraction each day. Use that time to listen for God’s direction for your life and for Saint Mark.
As we pray, I invite you to ask: What does faithfulness require of us in this moment? God, where are you calling me to be more present? What gifts can I offer? How can my life help carry your hope forward?
As we renew our commitments of prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness, I invite each household to prayerfully consider a financial commitment for 2027. Your generosity sustains worship, spiritual formation, care, and ministries that make “Welcome Home” a lived experience. Consider a commitment that reflects your circumstances and your desire to support our shared ministry. On November 22, Consecration Sunday, we will offer our commitments together.
Saint Mark’s story has been carried forward by people who prayed, showed up, gave, served, and shared their faith. Now it is our turn. With gratitude for those who brought us here and love for those who will come after us, let us respond to the moment entrusted to us.
Faithful now. Hopeful forward.
With love and hope,
Rev. Dr. Paula Lewis
Senior Pastor
