Dear Neighbors,

I am delighted to announce that on November 4th I was elected Selectwoman of Greenwich.

In my 25 years living in Greenwich, I have served the town in multiple capacities: on the Parkway School PTA, on the Representative Town Meeting, as a State Representative and next as Greenwich Selectwoman. Serving this town is one of the greatest honors and privileges of my life. I am committed to leading with integrity, transparency and a focus on what matters most to the community.

Now, I'm energized to get to work with the Board of Estimate and Taxation, the Board of Education, and the Representative Town Meeting to make Greenwich an even better place to live, work, raise a family, and retire.

I look forward to being sworn in on December 1st, and hope you will join me for the Board of Selectmen swearing in ceremony:

Special Session

Recently, I’ve talked a lot about the federal government's defunding of critical programs, especially the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), which is causing hardship for so many families across the nation.

I was pleased that in the recent special session the CT General Assembly passed House Bill No. HB-8003, which sets aside $500 million from the Budget Reserve Fund (also known as the Rainy Day Fund) to address cutbacks in federal funding for SNAP, WIC, and the Low Income Heating Energy Assistance Program, also known as LIHEAP.

I’m proud that our state is doing what is necessary to support families and children.

Affordable Childcare Benefits Us All

Child Care Aware recently came out with a report showing how much families pay for childcare in each state. Connecticut is among the most expensive, with an average cost of $34,000 for two kids. When childcare is unaffordable, parents - especially women - are forced out of the workforce, hardships for families are created, and it’s a drag on the broader economy. Importantly, when childcare is unaffordable, it means young children don’t have access to important early learning opportunities.

I was glad to read that, on November 13, Governor Lamont announced that Connecticut is adding up to 1,000 new spaces in the state’s Early Start CT program in January. He also announced that the state is increasing provider payments for the program by 8%. This will allow more families to have access to critical early learning programs for their children, and provide centers with the resources they need to provide high quality care.
