As we gear up for Winter Break and step into 2025 in the coming weeks, I am proud to share some tremendous news that speaks directly to the heart of who we are as a district. Youngstown City Schools has earned multiple Positive
Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) recognition awards for the 2024–2025 school year, with schools honored at the Gold, Silver, and Bronze levels.
This is more than a celebration of awards; it is a celebration of culture, climate, consistency, and commitment across the district.
What PBIS Means for Youngstown
PBIS is a framework rooted in data-driven decision-making, predictive intervention, and proactive support. At its core, PBIS helps us build the kind of schools our scholars deserve; schools where expectations are clear, relationships are strong, and the environment supports both academic learning and social-emotional growth.
When implemented, PBIS becomes a living, breathing part of a school’s culture. It turns classrooms into communities, expectations into habits, and challenges into opportunities for learning and growth. Every one of our schools recognized this year has shown that commitment—and it shows.

A District Moving Together
As superintendent, I am deeply proud of this work because it represents the spirit of One Vision, One Youngstown. Every building, regardless of size, grade band, or location, is leaning into the same expectations and the same commitment to excellence. We are building a seamless experience for scholars as they transition from elementary to middle to high school.
And most importantly, we are showing our community that Youngstown City Schools is a district that grows, evolves, and elevates together.
Our PBIS recognition is a milestone worth celebrating—but it’s also a reminder of our continued responsibility.
To every staff member who contributed to this achievement—thank you. Your work is seen, valued, and deeply appreciated.
This is what it means to Defend the Y. This is what it means to Honor the Past and Embrace the Future. And this is what it means to lead Youngstown City Schools toward a brighter, stronger, more unified tomorrow.
Congratulations to all of our PBIS Award recipients. Let’s keep going—together.
