Welcoming visitors, volunteers back to campuses
Welcome back to schools, guests! As previously announced, visitors are allowed back on Northwest ISD campuses beginning Monday, October 18. For those of you new to our district or with younger children, this may be one of your first times on campus in light of the pandemic. In this email, we’ll provide some information and friendly reminders to make visiting campuses quick and easy.
Check in at the secure entry
Every district campus uses a video entry system. You will press a button near the front entrance, and when prompted, you will state your name, your child’s name and why you’re visiting. Staff in the front office will then grant access into the first set of doors into the school. You will then check in with the front office staff to have your ID scanned and be checked into the system. This process is designed for student safety and preventing unwanted visitors from entering the school. To view a video of this process, click the preview image above or this link.
What to do and not to do
Visiting a campus should be an enjoyable experience to see your child, but it’s still a learning environment where teachers need to be able to do their jobs of educating all our children. As such, here is a helpful list of actions you should and shouldn’t take when visiting a campus.
What To Do
  • Check in at the front office
  • Complete a background check application and get approval if you plan to volunteer
  • Pre-register with the campus before coming in
  • Wear appropriate clothing
  • Bring a valid ID
What Not To Do
  • Loiter in the hallways or front office
  • Show up unexpected without prior approval
  • Visit your child in the classroom without teacher approval
  • Discuss other students
  • Come in if feeling sick
  • Take photos of a student who isn't your own child
Please be aware some visitor procedures may vary slightly from campus to campus. At the elementary level, for example, schools may have different systems in place to sign up to eat lunch with your child, just like how some schools have different pick-up procedures. Please check your campus communication or call the front office of your child's school for any of these details.
Volunteer opportunities available
While schools are happy to invite the occasional guests to see their children, you can thank your child’s campus by serving as a volunteer. Many opportunities are available to volunteer, making teachers’ and front office staff’s lives easier. Help a school with general support, mentorship, through the PTA or by becoming part of campus safety in Watch D.O.G.S.

All volunteers must complete and pass a background check before beginning to work on campus. This is done for the safety of students, and background checks may take up to 72 hours to process.
