Whitman Athletes Attend Women in Sports Day at Gillette Stadium
Sponsored by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association, or MIAA, Girls and Women in Sports Day is an opportunity to highlight the female athletes around the state.
The day is an annual event that celebrates the hard work and commitment of athletes across the commonwealth in their sports. This year, two students from Whitman Hanson High School were invited to attend the ceremony at Gillette Stadium alongside their softball coach, Maegan Amsler. Congratulations to Emilia Cooke and Cami Walsh on this recognition!

Historical Tidbit:
Hasting School Bell
| |
The Hastings School Bell was placed on the northwest side of the park in 1998 in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the Hastings School (non-extant), which was located near the park on Alden Avenue.
The historic cast iron bell weighs 300 pounds, is sixteen inches high, and thirty inches in diameter. The bell sits by itself at ground level in a small planting bed.

Appreciation for Food Drive Support
"THANK YOU WHITMAN!! A great BIG Thank you to the residents who dug deep and donated over 6400 pounds of food at the May 10th NALC/Post Office Food Drive! Thank you to the letter carriers, the girl scouts and daisy scouts, the
4H and Mt. Mover's Girl's clubs for their assistance in collecting the food. Many from the St. Vincent de Paul Society of the Holy Ghost church - who are regulars at the food pantry - also spent their day helping to receive, weight, sort and store the donated items. What a generous town we live in! Many, Many Thanks!"
Respectfully submitted, Tina Ouellette, Whitman Food Drive Coordinator

This powerful short film explores how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) intersect with addiction, violence, and cycles of trauma—and why trauma-sensitive care in schools isn’t optional, it’s essential.
Learn how schools and communities can build trauma-informed prevention frameworks to reach the kids most at risk—before the cycle continues.

Climate Can-Do: Simple Kitchen Swaps
We use plastic every day, most of the time without thinking about it. But scientists have discovered tiny, toxic, pollutants called microplastics all around the world. From Antarctica to the oceans, and even our own tap water. These tiny particles are a result of excessive plastic consumption and pollution. Here are simple switches we can make in our daily lives to decrease our contact with these toxic microplastics– and it all starts in the kitchen.
- Switch to bamboo or wood cutting boards. The plastic cutting boards we use to cut up our fruits and vegetables can scratch off tiny bits of plastic that stick to our food and are then consumed. Wood or bamboo is a better alternative and can even keep your knives sharper for longer!
- Use glass food storage containers. The plastic food containers we use to store leftovers get a lot of wear and tear. Over time this erosion can cause an increased amount of microplastics in our food. Alternatives like glass or pyrex are more long lasting and microplastic free!
- Don’t put plastic in the dishwasher. Even though we can make some switches, it’s unrealistic to get rid of all the plastic in our houses. However, the plastic we have left, like bottles or containers, can be washed by hand. The high temperatures of the dishwasher degrade the plastic over time.
Glass, pyrex, wood, bamboo are all great alternatives, but it’s nearly impossible to avoid plastic–and that’s ok. We can’t be perfect consumers nor should we have to. Making these simple switches can help not only protect you, but the world around you too! There is still a lot of research being done and much to learn about its effects. Scientists suggest a balanced diet, exercise, and plenty of sleep is always a sure fire way of having a healthy lifestyle.

Whitman Public Library is calling all sewists in the community to come down and pick up one of the kits in the main lobby. Each kit contains a simple dress pattern. Just sew a dress, return it to the library, and it will be sent to an underserved girl around the world! This will be an ongoing event, so stop buy and pick up a kit or two!
