Alfred Street Baptist Church Foundation – The Alfred Street Baptist Church Foundation has been awarding college scholarships to high achieving, financially challenged high school students since 2007. Since that time, we have awarded over $3.1 million in scholarships to over 800 students from the DMV. Scholarships range from $1,000 up to #$30,000 per year. In 2022, the City of Alexandria commissioned a Community Remembrance Project to explore and inform the public of the city's complicity in the practice of lynching in the late 1890s. Center for Alexandria's Children -On average, 1,200 children are being abused in our community every year. One is too many. Let's Save Childhood. Every day at the Center for Alexandria's Children we work to prevent child abuse, so we can end child abuse in our community. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and we're asking you to join us in our mission. With your help we can raise awareness -- and funds -- so we can end child abuse. Since 2007, The Center for Alexandria's Children has been the leading intervention organization in managing the reported average of 1,200 child abuse cases in Alexandria. We're also the only organization to bring many agencies together as one to end child abuse. In 2009, we launched Learn&PlayGroups for families with young children in high-risk neighborhoods in our city. These playgroups are vital resources for teaching families the skills needed to provide safe, healthy homes for their children. The Center serves approximately 175 families yearly through our Learn&PlayGroup program. During those critical developmental years from zero to five we reach and teach children and their families, helping them prepare and get registered for preschool -- a key indicator for better life outcomes. https://www.spring2action.org/organizations/center-for-alexandria-s-children

Community Lodgings - Community Lodging’s (CLI) mission is to lift families from homelessness and instability to independence and self-sufficiency through Transitional Housing, Affordable Housing, and Youth Education Programs. For 37 years, we have worked to open doors to independence for families and give our community the keys to a better life. “Look Ms. Charlyne!” said a formerly homeless 5-year-old child to our Case Manager, after moving with his mother and brother into their own, safe apartment in our Transitional Housing program. “We have keys now. We don’t have to knock on the door anymore.” Community Lodgings is unique in that we are one of the few nonprofits in the City of Alexandria providing the full continuum of housing services. A homeless single parent can enter our Transitional Housing Program, work hard with us for two years, graduate and move into safe, permanent Affordable Housing as one of our residents, all while their children learn and grow through our Youth Education programs. By taking that first step, that parent can change their and their children’s lives with Community Lodgings by their side every step of the way. By walking through our front door and joining our community, a whole world of opportunity and support opens.  https://www.spring2action.org/organizations/community-lodgings-inc

Scholarship Fund of Alexandria - The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, a 501(c)(3) organization, was established in 1986 by concerned citizens to help academically qualified students with financial need from Alexandria City Public Schools afford postsecondary education. Through its relationship with the community, the mission of The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria is to encourage and assist the students of Alexandria City Public Schools by providing them with necessary resources to access and complete a college, technical or career program of postsecondary education. In 1986, when it all began, the SFA awarded just over $7k in scholarships to eight students. Last year alone, we awarded $1.4 million to support 480 Alexandria City High School graduates to over 60 different institutions. Ninety-five cents of every dollar raised goes directly to support scholarships. The SFA has awarded more than 18 million dollars in scholarships and helped send more than 5,000 Alexandria students with financial need to college since 1986. Equally important, how do we get every eligible senior to pursue a postsecondary path? College advising is the vital resource the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria provides to assist each senior in creating a plan for the future. Every year we try to help an even greater number of students. From ninth grade through college, the SFA is available to assist students and their families get the answers they need to develop as scholars. All ACHS students are welcome to visit us and speak with us year-round, including summer months. We work with PTAs and PTSAs, partner with businesses and community organizations, neighbors, friends, alumni, staff, and ACPS administration. In addition to awarding scholarships, the SFA joins forces with the National College Attainment Network and Virginia College Access Network for richer resources, provides Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) workshops and individual FAFSA assistance, and holds special events throughout the year. To award as many scholarships as possible, we develop relationships with the people who believe in our students—the community in which they live, and, with time, the community our students may one day help to grow. We are immensely grateful for the unwavering support our community shows graduating seniors year after year. Scholarships Change Lives....Forever. https://www.spring2action.org/organizations/scholarship-fund-of-alexandria

Every dollar counts and builds our capacity to deliver meals and nutrition, create social connections and companionship, facilitate transportation for disabled residents, and increase awareness and accessibility of resources in Alexandria. https://www.spring2action.org/organizations/senior-services-of-alexandria

Stop Child Abuse Now of Northern Virginia - While masks have come off and life has started to feel normal for most of us, SCAN knows there is a long road ahead for vulnerable children and families. The pandemic brought a lack of community resources; job loss; food and housing insecurity; and other hardships to already disadvantaged families in Alexandria. The prevalence and severity of child abuse increased as family stress continued, leaving vulnerable children confined to abusive environments away from the eyes of mandated reporters. SCAN needs your help to act. Keeping children safe from abuse has long-lasting and generational positive impacts. When children are safe from abuse, they are more likely to maintain steady housing, succeed academically, remain employed, experience better physical and mental health, live longer, and are less likely to engage in criminal activity.

Tall Ship Providence Foundation - Tall Ship Providence...bringing history to life! The Senator John Warner Maritime Heritage Center, Home Port of Tall Ship Providence, honors an important time in American history and provides an interactive experience for visitors to learn about the role that Providence played in the Continental Navy and the American Revolution. As we welcome in the 2024 season, we are excited to share our new philanthropic initiative which is part of our 4th Grade Educational Program. Thanks to a generous gift from HII, we were able to create a program specifically designed for 4th grade students to learn about the American Revolution. The Field Trip Program (FTP) will provide all 4th grade students the opportunity to visit the Maritime Heritage Center and experience an immersive, onsite experience free of charge (including the cost of bus transportation). Beginning with Title One schools and expanding to all local elementary schools, our goal is to inspire young people to "think big", leave computers and the classroom behind and experience STEM and the wonders of nature through an authentic, historic reenactment. The Maritime Heritage Center, located on the waterfront in Alexandria, VA, serves as a floating classroom where guests can be transported back in time as they "make their mark" and join the Continental Navy. "New recruits" are briefed by a fellow sailor in the Education Center before stepping aboard Providence to meet their Captain, John Paul Jones, and become familiarized with their new assignments and living quarters. The tour concludes in the Naval History Theater with a viewing of Providence: Dawn of the U.S. Navy, an exceptional film produced exclusively for Tall Ship Providence. https://www.spring2action.org/organizations/tall-ship-providence-foundation

CFNC builds power within our community—the same community that founded our organization. Our model is effective because it was created and is implemented by our families, including former parents and students who are members of our staff and Parent Advisory Committee. https://www.spring2action.org/organizations/the-child-family-network-centers

Together We Bake - THE MISSION: Helping women on their journeys to self-sufficiency. Together We Bake’s mission is to provide a comprehensive workforce training and personal development program to help women facing barriers to employment gain self-confidence, transferable workforce skills, and invaluable hands-on experience which will allow them to find sustainable employment and move toward self-sufficiency. THE NEED: Overcoming barriers to employment. Gender inequality results in high rates of poverty, homelessness, abuse, violence, and increasing incarceration rates for women. Currently, 70% of the nation’s poor are women and children. In Alexandria, VA, the largest impoverished demographic is females 25 - 34, females 35 - 44, and males 6 - 11. Nationally, single, working mothers are twice as likely to hold low-wage and/or part-time jobs with few or no benefits than their male counterparts, which may be attributed to a variety of factors, including segregation into lower paying work, the gender wage gap, caretaking responsibilities, and experiences of violence and abuse. https://www.spring2action.org/organizations/together-we-bake

YMCA Alexandria -THE Y. SO MUCH MORE. As one of DC's leading nonprofit organizations, the Y is committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. That’s because strong communities are possible only when we invest in our kids, our health, and our neighbors. We’re more than a gym – we’re a cause. There is no nonprofit quite like the Y.
