Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We announced criminal charges this week against a former director of two Queens nursing homes for allegedly stealing more than 1,500 oxycodone pills, which were meant to be destroyed, from the facilities.

As a licensed nurse entrusted with the safety of patients under his care, including the safe disposal of narcotics, we allege he violated that trust.

I thank members of my Major Economic Crimes Bureau as well as our partners at the New York State Department of Health’s Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement for their efforts in this long-term investigation.

This case underscores the devastating consequences of the drug abuse crisis, which has led to a concerning rise in overdose fatalities and continues to profoundly impact our communities.

My office will continue to utilize a proactive approach focused on justice, rehabilitation and community engagement to tackle this crisis effectively.

My top priority will always be keeping you and your loved ones safe.

In Friendship,

Melinda Katz

Queens District Attorney

Cases of Interest

  • Seven defendants have been indicted by a grand jury on charges of grand larceny, money laundering, identity theft and other related crimes following a long-term investigation into a hack of a private cryptocurrency wallet belonging to a Queens resident.
  • A Queens woman has been charged in an 88-count indictment accused of hoarding more than 20 dogs and cats that were kept without access to water or adequate food in her Jackson Heights home.

Governor's Interfaith Breakfast

I joined Governor Kathy Hochul, New York Secretary of State Walter Mosley and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards for an interfaith breakfast with 50 diverse faith leaders of Queens to discuss ways of collaboration, unity and stronger engagement.

Our faith-based leaders are vital partners in identifying the best ways to serve our communities. By working closely together, we are better equipped to address the unique needs of borough residents, fostering inclusivity and justice in our initiatives.

Thank you to Governor Hochul for spearheading this important event.
