JULY 2023
This month: Learn more about our upcoming events, see an update on Piper, meet an adorable adoptable cat, find out how to foster with us, and read tips on how to help your cat deal with loud noises (including fireworks).

We have two great events coming up this month!

On Thursday, July 13, from 2 - 7 p.m., join us at the Salem Farmers' Market in Derby Square, Salem. We'll have gift items for sale, and we're happy to answer any questions you might have about adoption, fostering, or volunteering with us.

And on Saturday, July 15, and Sunday, July 16, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., visit us at PetSmart (10 Traders Way, Salem) for our National Adoption Week Pop-Up Boutique to pick up a gift for your favorite feline (or yourself).

See you there!

We're pleased to report that Piper, who's been at the Kitty Cat Cafe since October, has been adopted! She's now in her forever home with Kristopher from Beverly.

We found Piper when she was living underneath a dumpster by City Hall in Lynn. She was very pregnant, and 10 days later she gave birth to a litter of kittens, who were all successfully adopted. The vet later diagnosed her with FIV, which meant we couldn't adopt her out of the Adoption Center.

We partnered with the Kitty Cat Cafe, and Piper became our first adoptable cat there. Piper became their "spokescat" who educated visitors and volunteers about FIV-positive cats and how they can live with other cats without incident. She even made the news when she was interviewed by WBZ and the Boston Globe.

It’s been a long time coming, but there wasn’t a dry in the Café as Piper prepared to go home. She was gifted with a cat tree, a cool box with pictures of herself all over it and an adorable bouquet of Churu treats and mice.

Congratulations to Kris, and thank you to every volunteer, every donor, and every person who visited her at the Café. Every cat deserves a chance, and there is a right person for every cat. Sometimes it just takes a while.

This month's featured adoptable cat is Rigby. This handsome boy is a 2-year-old male who came to PALS after being picked up as a stray. He shows signs of a tough life on the streets, but it hasn't affected his spirit. He's loving, playful, and affectionate.

If you're interested in adopting Rigby, please fill out an adoption application or contact sandy@palscats.org with questions.

The calls to help cats and kittens keep coming in, and we are in desperate need of foster homes.

All you need is a small, quiet space (for example, a guest room or an extra bathroom), away from people and other animals, where your new foster cat will feel safe and acclimate to their temporary environment. PALS will assist you with suggestions on setting up your dedicated space. Once your foster cat is settled and ready to explore, you can allow them to share space with others in the home.

PALS will also help set you up with food, litter, beds, and toys from our inventory of donated supplies. All vet costs are covered by PALS.

If you think you may get attached, you may, but it’s an amazing thing you’ll be doing, saving a life and helping them find their forever home. Your involvement also helps us to learn more about their personality to ensure the right fit with potential adopters.

For every kitten/cat placed in a foster home, we are able to rescue another and, for every one that is adopted, another opening is created in a foster home.

Please consider opening your home and heart as a foster haven; apply today at

This month: We know July 4 is past, but for some of us, the fireworks go on all month long. Here's how to help your cat deal with fireworks (and thunder, too).
