Festive Felting: Crafting Easter Bunnies at Bridgewater Public Library
The Bridgewater Public Library hosted a delightful Easter-themed craft event, shining a light on the art of needle felting. This hands-on process, which involves sculpting wool with a needle until it becomes compact, allowed participants to explore their creativity. Embracing the holiday spirit, attendees crafted charming felt Easter bunnies, turning simple wool into festive treasures. It was a day of crafting, learning, and celebrating the joy of Easter through the unique lens of needle felting
The library offers many arts and crafts nights for all ages! Visit Bridgewater Public Library Events page to see what events are coming up!

Such a fun way to tap into your creativity, meet people, and celebrate Easter!

Historical Tidbit:
Bridgewater Iron Works
Bridgewater Iron Works on High St. and by Town River, was surrounded by industrial area buildings from 1830-1900's. Not many of those buildings are still standing today.

Bridgewater has a history of being an "iron town." It was a major manufacturer of iron and previously, this building was owned by Lazell Perkins/ Bridgewater Iron Mfg. Co. David Perkins created a mill here and began to produce mass amounts of iron. Along the way, he partnered with Nathaniel Lazell, thus in 1826 their partnership company began, Lazell Perkins Iron Works.

As the enterprise grew, they expanded the land to hold other shops, offices and barns. They became the second largest iron rolling project in the United States in 1886. Then from 1893-1920 the property was owned by Stanley Tool Co. instead.

Climate Can Do:
Reduce, Reuse, and Upcycle

One of the many ways that we can help against climate change is to reduce our consumption, reuse pieces that we already have, and upcycle them to make something new. Often we are quick to throw things out that we are no longer using, but why not give things a second life and keep them out of the landfills?

Ways to Reduce, Reuse, and Upcycle
  • Before throwing something away, consider if you or someone else could use it again in the same or different way. Passing things on to friends, selling on marketplaces, or donating them are all ways to give something another life.
  • Avoiding overconsumption is challenging, but being mindful of new purchases curbs the amount of new things being made.
  • Upcycling is taking something old and making it into something new! These projects can be practical, creative and fun!
  • Feel the need to shop? Going thrifting and buying second hand is a fun way to get your shopping fix in and find unusual items, inexpensively.
  • The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of the world’s carbon emissions and consumes 10% of all water used industrially worldwide. (Sustainable Harvest International)
  • Shop close to home and within your community. People often resell or give away things they do not need anymore. It could be just what you are looking for!

The more we reduce our consumption of products, reuse and upcycle, the more we keep out of landfills and we lower production in the first place. This also saves you money while helping to keep the environment safe for us humans.

Monty Python’s SPAMALOT
Apr 19-21 & 25-27
Rondileau Student Union Auditorium
19 Park Avenue

Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python’s SPAMALOT retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people.

The 2005 Broadway production won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and was followed by two successful West End runs. The outrageous, uproarious, and gloriously entertaining story of King Arthur and the Lady of the Lake will delight audiences as they search for the Holy Grail and “always look on the bright side of life.”

Bridgewater Basketball Brings Home Trophies!

Out of hundreds of teams across Massachusetts, two from Bridgewater won their respective championship games this past month! On March 10th in Foxboro, Massachusetts, the 7th-grade Boys Red team beat their opponents 52-48. With only nine boys on the team, together with their coaches Mark Mattar, Matt Tripp, and Jeff Gaylor, they found the road to victory.

The 7th-grade boys had a slow start to their season, losing their first four games. With these low numbers, it was looking like the season was going to be a challenge. Yet, they came together and went on to win seven of their next eight games, leading them to the championship game for the second year in a row. After losing last year, they made this repeat trip count!

Along with the older boys, the Boys 3rd-grade Wright B team won their championship with coaches Brett Wright, Laura Murphy, and Mike Rich.

With high numbers, the 3rd-grade boys were split into two teams. These teams were divided evenly for number purposes and not based on talent. With the teams split, the boys played against their own friends multiple times throughout the season, each making it to the playoffs. In the end, the B Team knocked out the A Team to pave the road to the championship.

Both the 7th-grade boys and the 3rd-grade B teams brought home trophies to Bridgewater this season! Congratulations to all the players and coaches on a wonderful year!

Grounding: the practice of making oneself grounded: "to be based firmly on something"

When we are grounded, we have a firm understanding of our value as a human being. We know who we are as a person.

Sometimes this is considerably harder than one would hope, and I know I need to actively do things that ground me regularly, especially when faced with emotional challenges.

“It was when I stopped searching for home within others and lifted the foundations of home within myself I found there were no roots more intimate than those between a mind and body that have decided to be whole.” ~ Rupi Kaur

“In the vessel of your body, you yourself are the world tree, deep roots in the Earth and a crown of stars. Your essence bridges dimensions.” ~ Elizabeth Eiler

“Sacred rest is not just about sleeping or taking it easy. It consists of physical, emotional, and spiritual rest. The purpose is to promote a healthier mindset, attitudes, boundaries, relationships, productivity, and wellness as a whole person; body, mind, and spirit.”
~ Dana Arcuri
It is not from others that we find our worth, although the mirror and energy does help when it is positive. No, we have to know ourselves well enough to reach for food to feed our roots; our buried inner core self; and strengthen those roots because some days... the wind blows and the sleet hits our leaves and branches, and we need to be firmly planted to weather the storm. ~ Jacquie
