Greetings Friends and Neighbors,

The Broadview Fire Department continues to grow and strengthen its team with the recent hiring of three new firefighters. Among them is Jasmine Williams, making history as the first African American female firefighter in Broadview. Jasmine comes from the Black Fire Brigade program, an organization dedicated to preparing young Black men and women for careers in the fire service. Her journey is a testament to the impact of mentorship and training in creating opportunities and breaking barriers.

Joining her are David Auer and Justin Graham, two highly skilled and dedicated firefighters who will contribute to the department’s mission of protecting and serving the Broadview community. Their addition represents a continued commitment to excellence in public safety and emergency response.

In addition to this exciting news, I had the pleasure of welcoming a 5th-grade student from Lindop School to preside over our regular board meeting this past Monday. When we bring students to the table, we give them the opportunity to engage in local government and be a part of the decisions and processes that shape their community. It is essential to inspire young leaders by showing them firsthand how their voices matter and that they, too, can play a role in shaping the future.

We celebrate both our new firefighters and our young leaders who are stepping into spaces where they can learn, lead, and make an impact. Broadview continues to grow stronger, and I am excited about what’s ahead!

Love and Kindness,

Mayor Katrina Thompson
