In May, we were proud to have a strong showing from the Greater Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter at the 2026 WTS Annual Conference in Los Angeles including speakers, award winners, and scholarship recipients who represented us so well on a national stage. Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School graduate Laura Romero won the WTS Foundation’s Transportation You High School scholarship, and Angela Berry-Roberson was honored with the WTS International Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership Award after winning at the Chapter level thrice. These moments not only highlight the talent within our chapter but also reinforce the value of investing in as broad an array of transportation professionals and students as possible.
As we step into June, we face many opportunities to connect in pursuit of broader inclusion across our industry. What makes you YOU is crucial to the strength of our organization and our profession and deserves to be celebrated. June is Pride Month, and Juneteenth is on June 19. Both celebrations serve as a reminder that freedom and equity are worth fighting for. June 23 is International Women in Engineering Day, and we hope you will join us at our Leadership Panel event to recognize the innovation, leadership, and impact of women engineers who continue to shape the future of transportation.
We look forward to carrying this spirit into our June programming and ongoing initiatives. Our Mentoring Program restarted in May and will continue for the rest of the year, bringing professionals at various stages of their career together to grow and learn from each other. We are hosting a Summer Membership Mixer hosted by HNTB at their Dallas Office on June 9. We hope to see you there. Stay tuned for a speed networking event for interns and a service project in July. Whether you are helping us feed the hungry, mentoring a colleague, or simply showing up to our programs and welcoming someone new, we appreciate your commitment to staying engaged and making a difference.
Speaking of a difference, festivities have already begun for the FIFA World Cup 2026! On top of baseball season and celebrating 250 years of the United States of America’s independence, the North Texas region will be hosting an estimated 3M+ visitors from all over the world. Our transportation network will undoubtedly change quite a bit during this time. Whether you drive, walk, bike, or take transit, please stay safe while navigating the added activity and excitement this major event is sure to bring.
Sincerely,
