CAPACITY FOR CAMPUS HOUSING

As you know, Wake Forest University views living on campus as integral to a liberal arts education and the Wake Forest experience. In support of that view, the University has a six-semester residency requirement.

Moving into the 2022-2023 Academic Year, we expect our housing to be back at full capacity. Additionally, Fall 2022 will be one of the first times in several years that we do not have a community offline for renovation. As such, we do not anticipate the need for University-sponsored housing (Crowne Apartments or Deacon Station).

Those with 6+ housing credits (typically seniors), will be asked to express their intent for the 2022-23 Academic Year between January 17 and February 7. Those who do not express an on-campus intent by February 7, will not receive priority in housing selection.
RELEASE FROM RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

It is important to understand that there will be far fewer off-campus releases this year than have been granted in previous years. Therefore, students should not make any plans to live off-campus unless they have been released in writing from the residency requirement by the Office of Residence Life and Housing. If you sign a lease before being released and do not get released, you will still be obliged to honor the residency requirement and maintain on-campus housing.

Students may be released from the University’s residency requirement in one of two ways:

  • Students may enter the Off-Campus Lottery beginning January 17, 2022. This indicates a desire to live off-campus prior to fulfilling the residency requirement. As the Office of Residence Life and Housing finalizes the number of students able to live off-campus, they will use a random selection process to release the appropriate number of students.
  • Students may form an Off-Campus Lottery Group and enter the Off-Campus Lottery from the Housing Portal between January 17 and February 7. Off-Campus Lottery outcomes will be communicated by February 18.
  • In support of students with disabilities, the Office of Residence Life and Housing has a wide variety of housing and dining options on campus that can accommodate the vast majority of disability needs. Students who need to request a disability-related accommodation should visit rlh.wfu.edu/accommodations to begin the request process. Please note that a release from the University’s six-semester on-campus housing requirement is generally not considered a reasonable accommodation.
  • Students seeking an accommodation to live off-campus should explain in their request (and in providers supporting documentation) how living off-campus meets their needs in ways the University cannot.
We look forward to creating an engaging residential experience for you in 2022-23, and will communicate additional details about housing selection in early spring as these processes begin. Until then, should you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact housing@wfu.edu.
