The Professional Women in Building hosted Backswing Golf at the Nail Drivers Open and raised more than $2,000 for the scholarship fund!

Golfers that beat local pro, and UofI Hawkeye alumni Sarah Overton, entered for a chance to win a blue tooth speaker and bragging rights.

The other half of the money raised will go towards supporting women entering the LPGA.

Become an Alzheimer's Avenger

Hello Everyone,

The Iowa City Home Builder’s Association Professional Women in Building and the Iowa City Area Business Partnership Ambassadors are getting together to form a team for the Iowa City Walk to End Alzheimer’s, happening on September 23rd, 2023. I wanted to send an email to everyone so those who may be interested can sign up to participate.

I am excited to announce that our collaborated group for the Alzheimer’s Association Walk for 2023 has an active page! Our team's name is the Alzheimer’s Avengers, and we have a fundraising goal of $5,000 by September’s walk date. If we have a mix of 20 participants from both groups, each person’s goal could start at $250 for us to reach our target. This amount is not a minimum by any means, whatever you are comfortable raising is much appreciated.

A little bit about The Alzheimer’s Association, it was formed in 1980 by Jerome Stone and several others who believed that a nonprofit was needed to help those facing Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Dementia is a disease that closely affects many families and individuals throughout the world, with rising numbers of patients diagnosed. This is a disease that currently has no cure. The Alzheimer’s Association works to bring education, treatment research/options, and support groups to each of our communities to help families in the fight against this debilitating disease. The Alzheimer’s Association also works to bring support to groups that are under resourced, such as the Native American, Black American, and LGBTQ+ communities; to aid in diagnoses, treatment, and support. The Iowa Chapter is one focused on support and research. They offer support groups, program events, a free 24/7 helpline of specialists and master’s level clinicians, and other educational and support tools for families and individuals affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia.

If you are interested in participating, there are a lot of different ways you can contribute. I have attached the link to our page, The Alzheimer’s Avengers.

https://act.alz.org/site/TR?team_id=806466&pg=team&fr_id=16517 – select “Join Our Team”

For those who would like to both fundraise and attend the walk, you can register to become an Avenger, set a personal fundraising goal, and join the team! Not sure if you can attend the Walk, but still want to help raise funds? That’s all right, walking is optional and is something you will be able to select when you register. If you are interested in walking, but not quite sure if you can hit the fundraising goal, shoot me an email and I can help you get set up.

From there, it would be a process of raising funds, each hitting our personal goals, to eventually reach our group goal and walking on the final day. Personally, I plan to post the link into my feeds for friends and family to see and donate to. Facebook fundraising pages are encouraged but I’d have to direct you to Marc Hall from the Alzheimer’s Association if you have any questions to get that set up and connected to the page. Anyone can donate through the links posted to connect to your personal goal or directly to the page at any time.

I know this was a lot of information, so I have my contacts below if you wanted to reach out with any follow up questions.

Thank you!
