Check out this past month's highlights:

-Blythe Elementary-

Kindness Fair

We were extremely excited about our Kindness Fair! We wanted to show our members the true meaning of kindness and friendship.

To celebrate, our members created a Kindness Wall filled with uplifting messages for everyone to read upon entering the classroom. They also wrote kind notes to their classmates and placed them in a special mailbox. Additionally, members had the opportunity to bring a guest, allowing them to share the experience with friends outside the program.

The event was filled with fun and meaningful activities, including a pizza party, gift bags, music, and sports games that encouraged teamwork. Members also enjoyed arts and crafts, which they could exchange with others or give as gifts to loved ones.

-Calabash Elementary-

Kindness Valentines Fair

The goal of the Kindness Valentine Fair was to foster a sense of kindness, community, and care among members by encouraging thoughtful gift-giving and connection while spreading joy and positivity during the Valentine’s holiday season.

Our youth were able to draw a secret Valentine’s envelope from our Valentine’s box 💌. On Valentine’s Day, members finally revealed their secret Valentines to each other and exchanged Valentine’s bags they had worked on.

To end the day, our youth enjoyed a Valentine’s Carnival Fair featuring games such as Limbo and Target Toss, as well as a pizza celebration.

-Gary M. Thomas Clubhouse-

Gary M. Thomas Clubhouse was excited to host this year's Kindness Fair! The event was designed to teach children the importance of kindness and friendship in a fun and engaging way.

The Club provided a variety of games, including limbo, Valentine’s dartboard, "Pin the Heart on the Animal," and many more arcade-style activities. Throughout the event, children earned tickets by participating in the games, which they later redeemed for prizes.

Additionally, throughout the week, the children decorated their own goody bags, which the staff filled with small toys and treats for them to take home. It was a wonderful celebration of kindness and friendship!

-Justice St. Elementary-

The Youth of the Month ceremony at Justice Street Elementary was a memorable event that celebrated the hard work and achievements of our students. Our three nominees—Marilyn L., Everly T., and Evan V.—were recognized for their dedication and positive contributions to the school community. Each nominee received a special gift bag filled with toys and slime, and all were cheered on by their peers, creating an uplifting atmosphere.

The coaches did an amazing job decorating the event with balloons, metallic gold table covers, and "Congrats" balloons, which the kids absolutely loved. The event also featured chips, juice, and Ring Pops for everyone to enjoy.

As the winners were announced, the excitement was palpable, and the Youth of the Year received an invitation to Pinstripes as a special reward. It was a fun and meaningful celebration that the students thoroughly enjoyed.

SMART Moves is a program designed for members of all ages to engage in social-emotional learning through movement. This week, our 4th and 5th-grade members had fun working with partners during balancing games. Afterward, they cooled off by practicing some of their favorite yoga poses. Using familiar characters like Stitch helps break the stigma around mental health and encourages kids to express their emotions comfortably.

SMART Moves

-Reseda Elementary-

Kindness Fair

At Reseda Elementary, we had an exciting month filled with extracurricular activities and community engagement. One highlight was our Kindness Fair, which encouraged generosity and compassion among our youth. Throughout the month, members secretly gave thoughtful kindness grams to a peer and earned club bucks, which they later used to buy a special treat for their secret friend. The celebration event was a heartwarming moment as the identities of their “kindness matches” were revealed. The staff at Reseda planned fun and engaging activities, spreading kindness throughout Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley

-Serrania Elementary-

Kindness Fair

The Kindness Fair, held on Valentine’s Day, was a fun and inclusive event designed to promote kindness and community engagement. Open to all BGCWV members, the event featured exciting activities such as an inflatable skeeball machine, pin the heart on the bee, limbo, a blow-up dartboard, and Valentine’s card-making.

Members enjoyed free pizza, drinks, snacks, goodie bags, and matching heart glasses, creating a warm and festive atmosphere. The event fostered connections through acts of kindness and interactive fun, making it a memorable celebration of love and positivity. One of the most unique aspects was the blend of engaging activities with meaningful gestures, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who participated.

-Woodland Hills Elementary-

Hip Hop class takes place every Monday at Woodland Hills Elementary as part of our specialty enrichment programming. Returning due to its popularity and positive impact, this dynamic program gives members the chance to express their creativity through dance. Each session includes learning new moves, choreography, and rhythm in a fun and engaging environment.

Beyond building confidence and self-expression, members also participate in interactive games and collaborate with peers they may not typically work with, fostering teamwork and new friendships. This program promotes movement, creativity, and social connection, making Mondays a highlight of the week for all who join!

-Teen Center-

Our Girl Scouts recently had the meaningful opportunity to create cards for families affected by the recent LA fires. This program helps members develop leadership skills such as resourceful problem-solving and embracing challenges.

Led by Coach Jomira and Coach Estefani, Girl Scouts meets every Monday, providing a supportive space for members to grow and learn. The ultimate goal is for our Girl Scout troops to apply the skills they gain in the program to real-life situations, empowering them to make a positive impact wherever they go.

-Canoga Park High School-

The Valentine's Day Movie Night was a fun and engaging event that brought students together while introducing them to the Boys & Girls Club. More than 50 students attended, enjoying free pizza, drinks, and snacks while voting for Wall-E as the movie of the night.

The event created a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, giving students the chance to connect with peers and learn more about the program. Before the movie started, a brief discussion highlighted the benefits of joining the Boys & Girls Club, encouraging more students to get involved.

As the first event of its kind, Movie Night provided a special opportunity for students to gather and build a sense of community. A unique aspect of the night was the student-led movie selection, allowing everyone to have a say in the experience while enjoying a safe and fun after-school activity.

SAT PREP

For the first time in four years, the SAT Prep program is being offered to students at Cleveland High School. In collaboration with the College Center at CHS, juniors have been signing up to prepare for their upcoming exam in just a few weeks.

Their first lesson was a packed two-hour session focused on grammar and reviewing questions from past SAT tests. Over the course of three weeks, with sessions held twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, students will gain a deeper understanding of the SAT structure and practice key math sections to enhance their test-taking skills.
