Check out these tips to celebrate Halloween sustainably.

1. Don’t buy a new costume this year, choose a more sustainable option instead! – Try a Do-It-Yourself costume with clothes from your closet and fun accessories, swap costumes from a previous Halloween with friends, ask for costumes or accessories on your local Buy Nothing group, or purchase secondhand at a local thrift store.

2. Use reusable supplies for your Halloween party – Cut down on waste by choosing reusable plates, silverware, and cups. Check out a free Party Pack from Zero Waste Palo Alto that contains all the supplies you need.

3. Compost your pumpkins – Put your pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns in your green bin.

4. Decorate a reusable trick-or-treat bag – Use an old pillowcase as a festive trick-or-treat bag by decorating it with old clothing scraps and fabric markers. This is more sustainable than plastic store-bought options and can be reused year after year.
