Help kids enjoy all that camp can offer – register today!
Here are just some of the auction items we are offering:

Trails

“There is no better high than discovery.”
E.O. Wilson, Naturalist/Biologist
Many people do not know that Camp Kawartha has more than 4 kms of trails at our main site on Clear Lake, and linkages to the Trent University trail system at our Environment Centre on Pioneer Road.
The community is welcome to discover the amazing meadows, forests and wetlands that are part of the Camp Kawartha Range area. At our Clear Lake site the trails feature QR codes on the Orange and Red Trails to help you discover the history of this area and the unique geological and natural features of the Kawarthas.
To find out more visit
www.campkawartha.ca. Our trail guides are under Facility Rentals as part of the ‘Virtual Facility Tour’.
There is nothing so good for the soul and your health as a walk in the woods! The Japanese call it shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing. The chemicals released from a walk in the woods not only improve your mood but boost your immune system as well.

A few newsletters back we asked former staff, campers, volunteers if they would recount some memories for us that could be utilized during our 100
th anniversary year in 2021. Here is an excerpt from Will Tranter who was a camper in the 1940s!
"I am now eighty-one years old and first attended Camp Kawartha in 1947 when it was an all boys camp. It was the summer between grade 5 and 6 when my parents learned about the camp through the Peterborough YMCA and decided it would be a great summer experience for me.
In early August of 1947, my parents drove out from where we lived in Peterborough and dropped me off for my 2 weeks of adventure. One of the first people I met when I was being dropped off was the camp director, Cooki Munroe."

E
nvironment Council at Camp Kawartha
|
The Environment Council for Clear, Ston(e)y and White Lakes recently met at Camp Kawartha to review the plans for the shoreline naturalization project which will begin this summer. Over 25 Lake residents and local politicians were in attendance to learn about this inspiring demonstration project, which will encourage waterfront owners to enhance their shorelines. Landscape Architect, Helen Batten of Basterfield and Associates, the designer of the master plan, reviewed in detail the scope of the project and provided a tour of the site.
The Council is organizing a Volunteer Planting Day set for
Saturday, August 17th starting at 9:00 am
. They need at least two dozen volunteers to plant over 1,000 native wildflowers and shrubs. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Susan at philanthropy@campkawartha.ca. For more information about the Environmental Council and the project visit their web site

Market Camp
Nature-based, agriculturally inspired learning in the downtown core
|
|
Farmers’ Market Day Camp is a collaboration between Camp Kawartha and the Peterborough Regional Farmers’ Market (PRFM). We joined forces with the goal of bringing nature and food/farming education to the farmer's market. Our Saturday morning program strives to foster awareness and respect for wild spaces in the city, as well as connection to nature through exploration and play.
Offering the program during peak market hours (10am - 1pm) give parents an opportunity to drop their kids (ages 6 - 11 years old) off for a morning of adventure and play, while they enjoy some time at the farmers’ market and around the downtown.
