September is National Recovery Month

Started in 1989, it is a national observance to promote and support evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the nation's recovery community and the dedication of service providers and communities who make recovery in all its forms possible. A big shout out and thank you to The Open Door Recovery Center in Flemington for all their efforts in this arena. If you know of someone in need of recovery services click here to learn more and contact a recovery advocate.

National Suicide Prevention Week is September 10-16

Suicide prevention is important every day of the year but in September there is a focus on it. Have open conversations about mental health and "lighting the way" for those in distress. If you or someone you know is struggling and needs help, call the suicide prevention hotline 988 and get the help needed.

Hidden in plain sight

Think you know what paraphernalia looks like these days? Think again! Manufacturers are creating vape devices that look just like school supplies, such as high lighters, USB drives and ball-point pens. Experts are urging parents to pay closer attention to what's in their children's backpack and to have those sometimes difficult but very important conversations about the harms of vaping.

Edible Poisoning Uptick

A recent article found in NJ Patch is reporting an increase in poison control calls for the 4th consecutive year, with children consuming THC edibles. "This past July, they fielded 30 calls about it in one month alone, in kids ranging from 1 to 12 years old."

A scary & dangerous reality and one that cannabis consumers need to be extra vigilant about.
