To Our Families with Children:
During the holidays, we expect a full sanctuary and many new faces at Beth David. To this end, please review the changes and updates below regarding children's programming and play spaces during the Yomim Tovim.
-
We ask that children participating in upstairs programming behave with consideration of their peers and educators. If a child becomes disruptive, a babysitter or educator will bring your child to you in the Sanctuary.
- We ask that you do not leave synagogue grounds while your children are in programming or babysitting.
-
The Nursing Room is located behind the Bima, between the Women's Section and the Chapel. Please note that this space is primarily for nursing mothers/parents. If your child needs a break from services, please consider taking them to the Lobby, outside, or to our upstairs classrooms and play spaces.
-
We understand that little people can make big noises; children are a blessing and are always welcome in the Beth David Sanctuary! During our services, we ask for your cooperation in encouraging quiet when the Ark is open, when the Rabbi speaks, during silent Amidah, and during other times of quiet davening.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation, understanding, and support!

Mazal Tov to our Simchat Torah Honorees!
Chatan Torah: Robyn & Harry Weller
Chatan Bereishit: Glenn Yaffa

Robyn & Harry Weller
Robyn was born and raised in Greater Hartford, Harry joining her after their marriage by Rabbi Lindenthal z"l at Tefereth Israel. Around 1980, they joined Beth David Synagogue, where Robyn appreciates her involvement, commitment and friendships, and Harry the space of rejuvenation, family connection and comfort. At Beth David, they have served in leadership capacities too numerous to list. Among the highlights, Robyn has been President and Vice President of the Sisterhood, led many successful Beth David fundraising efforts (including conceiving of and co-chairing Kosher Chopped!), and seeded the synagogue's security fund. Harry has been a member of the Board, including service as co-president and vice president, chair of the Ritual Committee, and a dedicated participant in services through daily minyanim, including as a Gabbai rishon and a Ba'al Koreh. They are proudest of their work, in partnership with Rabbi Cohen z"l, to transform Beth David into a more welcoming place for children; of the Israel Merchant Mart; and of having their children and grandchildren as active members. Beyond Beth David, Robyn and Harry have both had leadership roles as West Hartford NCSY advisors and with Israel Merchant Mart. They are fervent Zionists and support Israel in many ways. Further, Robyn's talents in fundraising have also benefited the New England Jewish Academy (NEJA) and the Interval House, where Robyn's participation was influenced by Elaine Schwartz z"l. Harry has also served in leadership roles for Chabad, NEJA and the Legion self-defense program. Robyn celebrates that she is a "real red head," and Harry his role as "one of those curmudgeonly alter kakkers."
Glenn Yaffa
Glenn was born and raised in Hartford and joined Beth David when his family moved to West Hartford in the late 1950s. Glenn both went to Hebrew school and became a Bar Mitzvah at Beth David, where in his adult Jewish life he appreciates aiding and assisting, friendship and comradery and his faith. With a sense of pride in his leadership contributions, Glenn serves as a member of the Board, chairs the Building Committee, and participates as a Gabbai. Beyond Beth David, Glenn plays the saxophone in several bands and started a sports newspaper that was distributed in high school and colleges in Connecticut. He also once rode in an elevator with Ringo Starr.
