Happy Halloween, Antioch!
I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween weekend! Trick-or-treating hours are Saturday, October 31, from 3 to 7 p.m. Please watch for our little ghosts and goblins, and remember to turn on your porch light if you're handing out candy!
Good luck to our Antioch Sequoits tonight! After an undefeated 9-0 season, the Sequoits host Glenbard South at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Class 5A football playoffs. Congratulations to the players and coaches! Hopefully, this is the beginning of a run all the way to the State championship over Thanksgiving weekend at Illinois State University in Normal. Let's go, Sequoits!
And speaking of sports, congratulations to the Milwaukee Brewers on their first World Series championship! As a lifelong Cubs fan living with Brewers fans, I've really come to appreciate this team. They've always been my second favorite, except when they're playing the Cubs! This was the most enjoyable World Series for me since 2016. Congratulations to the Brewers for building a team and doing it the right way. Well deserved!
Looking for something to do this weekend? The Antioch Theatre is offering free showings of Paranormal Island, filmed locally at Blarney Island. You might recognize some familiar places and faces! They're also showing The Nightmare Before Christmas. Check the Theatre's website for showtimes and ticket information.
Tickets are on sale for the Antioch Chamber's Champagne Stroll, Mimosa Bar & Brunch Bites on Saturday, November 7. Participants can enjoy brunch bites and a build-your-own mimosa bar at Rivalry Alehouse before exploring participating downtown shops, restaurants, and bars for champagne samples. The event runs from noon to 4 p.m., with advance registration required. This is an enjoyable way to gather with friends while supporting our downtown businesses. A big thank-you to all the downtown businesses that participated in last weekend's Treat the Streets event. It was great seeing so many families enjoying downtown. Our businesses handed out plenty of candy, so now let's return the favor! Stop in, shop, grab a meal, and support the businesses that continually support our community.
Speaking of restaurants, welcome to Asiana, now open at Main and Lake Streets! We're also looking forward to Salvatore's Casa, an Italian restaurant coming to the former Station 51 location. It's wonderful seeing continued investment in our downtown.
Some exciting news from Pickard China! I recently had the pleasure of touring the facility and meeting with members of the Pickard family, internationally recognized artist and new owner Theaster Gates, and well-known Chicago arts philanthropist Nora Daley.
Pickard China has been part of Antioch's history for generations, producing some of the finest china in America, including for the White House. I was incredibly encouraged by their vision and plans for significant reinvestment in the facility. They understand the history and importance of Pickard China and are committed to restoring and building upon that legacy right here in Antioch. Thank you to everyone involved with the tour of Pickard China and for believing in our community. I'm looking forward to sharing more as plans develop. This is exactly the kind of investment and renewed energy we love seeing in Antioch!
Finally, don't forget to vote next Tuesday, November 3!
Early voting continues through Monday, November 2, and Election Day polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. There are important local, county, state, and congressional races on the ballot that will impact your pocketbook, public safety, and the future of our communities.
I don't care how you vote. Just get out and vote! Learn about the candidates, make your own decisions, and participate in the process. No excuses!
And if you've ever considered running for local office or school board, petitions for the April 2027 elections are available, with filing November 16–23.
One last reminder: Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday morning, so don't forget to turn your clocks back an hour.
