MTB Boletín en Español

November is a time to celebrate First-Generation students all around the country.

On November 8, we joined with other organizations across the U.S. to celebrate National First-Generation College Student Day and the strengths and resilience of first-generation students.

Watch our celebratory video, in English and Spanish, with words of wisdom from Leader Kamila, who speaks to the power of near-peer mentoring.

We also want to acknowledge and celebrate some of our own students' successes.

From our Leaders:

  • Lizbeth is one of two students selected for the Walker Transfer Scholarship for Ramapo College of NJ.

  • Nereida recently started her service site placement with MFEE which provides an after-school program that helps Spanish-speaking students academically and socially.

Some of our Fellows shared:

  • "I got a 95 on my recent Pre-Calculus Unit Test!"

  • "My accomplishments is that I was able to meet my mentor weekly, and I did everything for the month."

  • "I’m passing all of my APs to me that’s an accomplishment."

  • "I got to finally compete this month for cross country. After one and a half months of being injured and won JV Championships!!!!"

Plus all of our Fellows did a great job with Task 3: the Professional Interviews and Presentations!

Self-Sabotage & Rejection

Take a look at this clip from our Senior Full Group Meeting, where Social Work Intern Ayana discusses how rejection is a part of life and how important it is that we don’t keep ourselves from trying in order to avoid rejection.

Thank You, KearnyBank Foundation!

We're so excited that MTB received a $5,000 grant from the KearnyBank Foundation to support student stipends.

Congratulations to everyone!

Two Years of Amazing Impact

Coming Up Soon

Our next Full Group Meeting is Saturday, December 10, at 10 AM.

Task 4: Family Conversations

Families, this month you can expect your students to talk about their college plans. This is an MTB required task!

Here's a tip from Leader Ashley to Fellows: Ask your family to sit down for this conversation. Don’t try to talk about it while someone is cooking or cleaning. You want their full attention.
