AUGUST 2024

“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully." -Romans 12: 6-8

Every person has been endowed with certain gifts and blessings given to them by God. God first and foremost wants us to be part of His family sharing the Good News. He wants our time. This begins with prayer. We must give our time to God in prayer, and listen to what God wants of us. He expects us to use our talents for the good of others and our parish. He expects us to actively participate in parish life with our many gifts. We are challenged to put our treasure in His hands and be generous with the gifts God has given us.

The Tapestry Program invites our parishioners to do God’s work and share their many blessings. St. Brigid of Kildare is continually growing and changing. Inviting people into the spiritual life and activities of our community is the responsibility and calling of all of us. God’s Spirit of hospitality has been given to you, so that you might share it with others. We make God’s love known through our invitation so that all who come to St. Brigid of Kildare will find God and feel compelled to share his love.

Please take this time during our Tapestry Program to pray on your relationship with God and what St. Brigid of Kildare Parish means to you and your family. The Tapestry Program offers many opportunities for you to share your blessings. Please review the mailing you will receive in the next few weeks to see what all St. Brigid has to offer our community.

Join Us for Ministry Weekend - Sept 14-15

Please consider how you can become part of our parish family and join us on the journey of faith.

Welcome Ellie Hanson, High School Youth Minister

St. Brigid of Kildare Parish is happy to welcome Ellie Hanson as our new High School Youth Minister. Ellie brings over three years of experience serving at Damascus in their full-time missionary program, as a youth minister, and overseeing pastoral care during retreats. Damascus is a missionary movement that partners with the work of the Holy Spirit to bring revival to the Catholic Church in America.

Ellie has been a lifelong member of St. Brigid of Kildare Parish -- she graduated from St. Brigid of Kildare School in 2017 and Bishop Watterson in 2021. Ellie received all of her sacraments at our parish and has loved the gift of growing up and staying here. She was involved in our youth ministry program while in high school and since then has completed over 10,000 hours of work in youth ministry.

Ellie’s parents, Eric and Peigi Hanson, have been members of the parish since its founding, and her siblings Clayton and Angie graduated from St. Brigid as well.  Ellie and her fiance Otis will be getting married at St. Brigid in June of 2025, so she asks for your prayers for them.

Ellie says, “I am really looking forward to being involved at the parish level and learning how to love those around me! I am also looking forward to building relationships with our high schoolers, being a part of their lives, and showing them how the Lord draws near to them in everything!”

Ellie will begin her new role on August 19 and can be reached at ehanson@stbrigidofkildare.org or (614) 718-5832.

Church Sound

Over the last few weeks, many of you have spoken kindly with the clergy after Mass about your difficulty in hearing sound in the Church clearly.

We are very aware of the sound quality challenges we have in our church. Please know that we are working very hard to come up with a good solution.

We are in the process of forming a Technology/Sound Committee and are looking for parishioners with EXPERTISE in sound quality who may have specific knowledge and experience to help advise us.

If this is something you are interested in assisting, please reach out to the parish office and let us know. We ask for your patience as we move this forward.

Our goal is to try to have this taken care of as quickly as possible. We know that it will take some time to get the right equipment installed.

Thank you for your support and prayers.

Father Black, Father Lynch, Deacon Frank, Deacon Paul, Deacon Steve and Deacon Don

Congrats Deacon Frank Iannarino, Deacon Stephen Petrill

Deacon Stephen Petrill has been named director of the diocesan Office of the Diaconate and assumed the role July 1, following Deacon Frank Iannarino, the director of ministry and life for the permanent diaconate who retired from that position at the end of June. Deacon Iannarino served as director of the Office of the Diaconate for more than three decades, beginning in October 1991 when Bishop Emeritus James Griffin, who ordained him to the Order of the Diaconate in 1989, established the diocesan Office of the Diaconate. Iannarino served at St. Brigid, which was then a new parish, for two years before his ordination and has continued at St. Brigid as a permanent deacon since his ordination.

Since Deacon Iannarino began his work as director in 1991, he served under four bishops: Bishop Griffin, Bishop Campbell, Bishop Robert Brennan and Bishop Fernandes. Deacon Iannarino led efforts in guiding men preparing for the diaconate and in their assignments post-ordination.

After remaining with the office for 33 years, Deacon Iannarino expressed gratitude to those who offered their talents in the office alongside him.

As he prepares to enter retirement, Deacon Iannarino might be found on a golf course. A lover of golf, he also recognizes parallels between the sport and life as a follower of Christ.

Deacon Frank Iannarino will continue his role as a deacon at St. Brigid of Kildare Parish.

Deacon Stephen Petrill Assumes Role of Director of Diaconate

Deacon Stephen Petrill became the new Director of the diocesan Diaconate Office effective July 1, 2024. He was ordained by Bishop Campbell on November 26, 2016. He served at St. Joan of Arc in Powell from 2016 to 2022 and currently serves (and will continue to serve) at St. Brigid of Kildare in Dublin. He also holds an appointment on the board of trustees of the Pontifical College Josephinum. Prior to his appointment as Director of the Diaconate, Dcn. Petrill was Associate Director of the Diaconate and then Director of Diaconal Formation for the Diocese of Columbus. Dcn. Petrill and his wife Dawn have been married since 1995 and they have three adult children.

SPiCE Committee Meeting Recap

An update from the SPiCE Committee:

The SPiCE committee is back, and what a year we are planning. We had our first meeting on July 25th, and discussed inclusion, acceptance, and how to support the special members of God's family here at St. Brigid of Kildare Parish.

The Catholic Church's social teachings promote inclusion, or the idea that all people have inherent dignity as children of God and should be included in communal living. Pope Francis has said that inclusion means encouraging people to contribute to the good of society and the church, despite their limitations and gifts. He also wrote that people with disabilities can teach others that humans need God's love, mercy, and strength, and that awareness of one's limits can help people appreciate God's decision to help in times of weakness.

As we continue to plan and work together as an organization and community we would love to hear your thoughts and ideas. If you are interested in joining our organization or just sharing your thoughts please reach out to our newly created SPiCE email address - SPICE@stbrigid-school.org.

Scam Impersonating Bishop Fernandes

An increasing number of social media accounts posing as Bishop Earl Fernandes are targeting individuals online and requesting money.

The fake social media accounts appear to be targeting older adults or retirees, he said. Actors also often prey on individuals with perceived less technology experience.

St. Monica Prayer Service: praying Them Home

All are invited to the St. Monica Prayer Service at St Brendan the Navigator in Hilliard on August 27 at 7 PM, to pray for all Catholic families and friends no longer practicing our Faith, for those who are on the edge, and for us to be strengthened to go out on mission and bring them home.

In this third year of Eucharistic Revival, our vision is to pray for and walk alongside others to lead them to Jesus. Learn what persisting in prayer can do through St. Monica’s example. Be moved by music, Scripture, and testimony, with an opportunity to pray with a prayer team. Please also join us in praying a Novena each day leading up to the prayer service, beginning August 18, available at www.stbrendans.net/ich
