Critical Waterfront Updates Needed
As you may recall, a sinkhole developed on Sinatra Drive in June of 2024 that led to a thorough investigation of conditions along the entire stretch of Hoboken's waterfront. This investigation found that there are multiple locations where there is significant erosion of the decades-old concrete seawall beneath portions of the waterfront walkway and road. The Administration is seeking Council approval of a $30M bond for project costs, including coverage for annual inspections of the waterfront structures to avoid the prior neglect over the last several decades. Pending approval of this bond and state approval, construction is slated to begin in Spring of 2025. Check out this page on the City's website for more info.

City Council Meeting
The next City Council Meeting is Wednesday, January 22 at 7pm. Here are some of the significant items on the agenda (for a full copy of the agenda, click here):
-
Public Hearings: The meeting will open with two public hearing presentations by the Administration - both related to Green Acres funding from the state. The first project is for the proposed Resiliency Park at 800 Monroe, and the second project is for the very much needed upgrades to Tom Oliveri Park and playground at 13th & Willow. Resolutions CA1 and CA2 are authorizations to proceed with these two applications.
-
Resolution A3: Contract for Hoboken Police Chief Steven Aguiar. This contract would move Chief Aguiar from the lowest paid (Non-Class A City) Chief in Hudson County to the 5th in the County. This is a reasonable increase for a dedicated and professional leader who has repeatedly stepped up for the City during several recent public safety challenges. It is also worth noting that leadership of both Police Unions actively support renewing Chief Aguiar's contract at this time. Strong leadership is a critical component to ensuring public safety, and I look forward to supporting this contract.
-
Resolution A4: Resolution to enter into an agreement with the Hoboken Firefighters Association (Local 1076) for a new contract period.
-
Resolution CA12: Resolution for grant for $100K to invest in improvements to the gymnasium at the Multi Service Center.
-
Resolution CD8: Funding of a traffic study to be paid for by the developer regarding the project at 38 Jackson, related to the proposed change in use at this location to add PreK classrooms.
-
Resolutions CL2 - CL5: Appointments of members to the Zoning Board.
-
Resolution F1: Authorization of additional funds to address the critical repairs that need to be made to the waterfront bulkhead per updates above.
-
Resolution T3 and T4: Contract to Hall Construction to begin work on the midtown garage repairs, and an award for construction management.
