WVP Enews: Water Quality Milestones

Hello, Watershed Friends!

As we celebrate the 225th anniversary of the founding of the City of Cleveland by Moses Cleaveland on July 22, we also celebrate a milestone for the Cuyahoga River Area of Concern (AOC). The Eutrophication Beneficial Use Impairment (BUI) of the Cuyahoga River AOC is being removed.

Join others to celebrate the community progress of improving the quality of the Cuyahoga River on Thursday, July 22 at 4pm at Forest City Brewery; details here. We've come a long way with restoring our lakes and rivers thanks to community members like you. Thank you!

We invite you to continue to learn more about water quality and ways to monitor it. See our Watershed Stewardship Challenge listed below. Thank you for sharing your observations and continuing the quality improvements.

Thanks,

Bre Turner

Take the Watershed Stewardship Challenge: Visual Trends

Do you have an interest in water quality monitoring? If so, a new online platform has been developed with our partners at Cleveland Water Alliance and the Chesapeake Commons for visualizing water quality parameters such as phosphate and pH around Lake Erie. On this platform, you will be able to see data from various watershed groups around the Lake Erie Basin. We challenge you to look at the data and see if you notice any trends. Consider the following questions when viewing the data.

What trends do you notice when comparing parameters between watersheds?
What changes do you notice when looking at the graph of one parameter? What could impact these changes?
What do you think contributes to differences in parameter levels across the watershed?
What do you think are the benefits of having an online platform like this? What are the disadvantages?

You can now visualize this new platform on the bottom of the WVP water quality monitoring webpage or directly by clicking here. We challenge you to look at the data and share your observations with us! Please share any trends you observe with us at wvpinfo@clevelandmetroparks.com.
