Greetings!
In reading a reflection about this coming Sunday's Gospel which tells the story of Jesus healing 10 lepers, two ideas resonate with me. To recall, after Jesus heals the 10 lepers, only one returns to give thanks. The one who returns is a Samaritan. Samaritans were looked down upon because of their observance of Judaism; nevertheless, it is the Samaritan who returns. What the reflection highlighted for me was how often in Luke's Gospel we find faith in surprising places. This is true in our own lives as well, and it reminded me to keep vigilant watch for those unexpected examples of faith as we move through our days.
My other takeaway from the reflection involves the salvation the Samaritan finds in giving thanks for the gift of his healing. Each of the lepers received the gift of healing, yet "our salvation is found in recognizing the gifts we have been given and knowing to whom we must offer our thanks." Another reminder to give thanks throughout our day to God for all that we have received.
With gratitude,
Nicholas
