Superintendent's Message

Dear Families and Community,

It was another great week in Culver City Unified School District! As we make our way through October, teaching and learning continue across our schools, and I am encouraged by the dedication of our educators, the engagement of our students, and the many ways our school community continues to work together to support student success.

This week, I had the opportunity to spend time at Culver City High School, speaking directly with students and learning more about the needs of our student-athletes. These conversations are important as we continue working to provide the resources, facilities, and opportunities our students need to thrive both academically and athletically. I also want to highlight Culver Park High School's Back to School Night, where our dedicated teachers shared important information about their programs and plans for the school year. Thank you to our teachers, staff, and families for their continued partnership in supporting our students.

I am also pleased to share some exciting news from the recently released California School Dashboard! CCUSD achieved an outstanding 98.4% graduation rate, which includes students from Culver City High School and Culver Park High School, earning the highest performance level of Blue. Our district also demonstrated continued academic growth in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, with increases of 7.8 points in ELA and 10.4 points in Mathematics, earning a Green performance level in both areas. Our science results also reflect competitive student achievement.

Additionally, we are proud to report that CCUSD earned a Green performance level in both Chronic Absenteeism and College/Career Preparedness, reflecting our continued efforts to improve student attendance and prepare students for success beyond high school. We also earned the highest performance level of Blue in Suspension Rate, demonstrating meaningful progress in reducing suspensions and supporting positive school environments. These results highlight the important work taking place across our district to support students academically, socially, and emotionally.

While we celebrate these accomplishments, we recognize that there is still important work ahead. One of our continued areas of focus will be strengthening outcomes for our English learners, including implementing strategic interventions in mathematics to better support their academic success. We look forward to sharing a more comprehensive presentation of our Dashboard results, celebrations, and areas for improvement at an upcoming Board meeting.

These accomplishments reflect the collective efforts of our entire school community. Thank you to our students, teachers, staff, school administrators, and parents for your dedication and partnership in supporting student learning. I also want to extend my appreciation to our District Office team for the guidance, support, and leadership they provide to our schools every day. Together, we continue moving forward in our commitment to excellence for every student.

As always, we recognize that families have choices when it comes to their child's education, and we are grateful that you have entrusted us with serving your students. We remain committed to providing a high-quality educational experience and to partnering with you every step of the way.

With Gratitude,

Dr. Alfonso Jiménez

Estimadas Familias y Comunidad,

CCUSD Celebrates Disability Awareness Month With Proclamation, Talker Tuesday

The CCUSD Board of Education recognized October as Disability Awareness Month and read the Inclusion Proclamation at its October 13 meeting.

Copies of the proclamation will be displayed at all CCUSD schools. Pictured above with the CCUSD Board Members and Superintendent Dr. Alfonso Jiménez are, from left, Lindsay Crain, Christine Maitland-Koeh, Liz Vila, Joel McFaddon, and Dr. Bains.

Talker Tuesday was a success at La Ballona Elementary. Pictured at right, Zion Contreras (fourth grade) shared a disability fact with the student body using his AAC device. Charlie Vila (fifth grade) shared the same message in Spanish.

AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. Some people have a hard time using their voice to talk, so they use an AAC device to help share their thoughts, feelings, and ideas.

An AAC device might look like a tablet with pictures, words, or buttons. When someone touches a picture or button, the device can say the words out loud!

October is Disability Awareness Month!

This month, we celebrate the many strengths, talents, contributions, and experiences of people with disabilities while promoting greater understanding, acceptance, and inclusion throughout our community.

Inclusive practices matter because everyone deserves to feel valued, respected, welcomed, and included. When we create schools and communities where everyone can participate, build friendships, learn from one another, and contribute in meaningful ways, we create a stronger community for all. Most importantly, we want everyone in our district to remember one simple but powerful message: EVERYONE BELONGS!

To help spread this important message, CCPTA's Disability Awareness Month Pop-Up Shop is now open! Pick up a shirt, sweatshirt, or other item and proudly wear it around our schools and community as a reminder that inclusion and belonging are for everyone. Get yours today and help us spread the word: EVERYONE IN OUR DISTRICT BELONGS!
