MAYOR'S UPDATE
From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin
Ossining is great! Our Ossining Recreation & Parks Department hosts weekly family-friendly FREE events throughout the summer. So far, our events have ranged from a Pop-Up Circus and the Bubble Bus to jamming to live Jazz music in Market Square and playing Chess with Chavez from the Ossining Police Department! While so many municipalities of our size have reduced the number of free, fun events for their community, Ossining has thrived. I am grateful for the ingenuity and hard work of our staff and police department for all these efforts. And, of course, there are more to come. Events like these are a wonderful way to empower our youth, connect with our friends and build new relationships with the folks we meet along the way. All this is in addition to the many events held during the summer, which are produced and managed by local organizations, the library, and the Town of Ossining.
Got game? If so – join your neighbors tonight in the gym at the Ossining Recreation Center beginning at 7:00 PM for Family Fun Night, featuring Family Zumba taught by our own Suzi Myers and games, including mini golf.
Join us! To improve and increase community engagement and communications, members of the Board of Trustees and staff will be conducting several walking tours of our upcoming DRI projects. This week’s tour will begin on Wednesday at 9:00 AM at the Community Center. The tour and conversation will continue to Route 9 & 200 Main Street, Market Square & Post Office lot, then down Main Street to Station Plaza & 30 Water Street. We will return to the Community Center via the Sing Sing Kill Greenway—weather permitting.
Please join us Thursday, July 27, 2023, @ 6 PM for the eighth and final of the Village's Transformational Thursday Webinars: Let's Connect!

None of this takes place in a vacuum: taking a "zoomed out" approach, let's discuss how the changes happening downtown will enable residents and visitors to better access the Croton Aqueduct Trail, 200 Main Street, the Community Center, the Croton Avenue business district, and beyond!

This week’s Work Session will take place in person at 16 Croton Avenue, starting at 7:30PM on Wednesday, July 26. The agenda will include the following:

  • We will begin with a presentation from Bob Mitchell, Charles Jennings, and their team (Mitchell & Manitou) on the Ossining Fire Department consolidation study.
  • Our second agenda item will be a discussion regarding the option to re-purpose the funds initially earmarked for a 4th floor of municipal parking at 30 Water Street with funds to offset the construction of the Multi-Modal Transportation Hub at the Brandreth Lot.
  • Finally, the Village was informed that in order to apply for the $30M Intermunicipal Grant for the IBWTP, we will need to rescind our $3M WIIA grant for the project (awarded in 2019). The Board will discuss this to provide staff with direction on how to proceed in light of this new information.
  • We will also hold a Special Meeting to address the amended IBWTP bond resolution, as discussed during last week’s Continuing Business.
