Dear MacLaren Community,
As you may be aware, District 11 (D11) will ask residents to approve a bond measure during the November election. This measure is designed to address long-standing facility needs and create safer, more modern learning environments for every student across the district. As part of this request, D11 has committed to ensuring that every school, including charter schools like MacLaren, receives a meaningful investment for facility upgrades.
As part of the bond planning process, we were given the opportunity to identify our areas of greatest need and share details of our long-range Master Facility Plan. As one of the largest schools in D11 by student count, comprising almost 5% of the district's students, we are very pressed for space on our lovely campus, which was originally built as a standalone middle school.
Recognizing our current needs, District 11 has allocated $24 million of the proposed bond to Thomas MacLaren School. As specified in the project plan submitted by D11, our allocation will fund the following priorities:
-
High-Priority Classroom Space: Construction of a new high school building (see rendering below) featuring science classrooms, flexible spaces, and additional restrooms. This will improve the high school program and free up space for better K-8 use of existing buildings.
-
Secondary Priority (Should funding allow): Adding air conditioning to the gymnasium and auditorium spaces.
These improvements will significantly enhance MacLaren’s ability to offer an excellent classical liberal arts education to all K-12 students.
